Waiting for Christmas and other tricks of time
12.7.11 by Q3
Today, I drove by a sign and it triggered an odd memory. The sign was in front of a church – one of those “wise” church signs. It said:
Remember yesterday.
Dream of tomorrow.
But live for today.
No it is not a New Testament quote. As far as I can tell, this expression originated with Albert Einstein.
somehow it started me thinking. And THAT is always a potentially dangerous thing.
I started thinking about waiting for Adam’s single. I was thinking about how excited I was getting and how the closer the release date appeared to be, the more excited I was getting. And the higher my expectations got. I felt like a young girl waiting for Christmas and dreaming of the perfect present – only to be dashed like an empty crate thrown overboard, bashed by the waves onto the rocky shore.
Oh, I am not just being melodramatic. We have all been there. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindis, even Buddhists – dreaming about the perfect present. It could be for Christmas, Hannakah, Diwali or even a birthday. The closer the date gets, the more excited the potential giftee gets.
I remember being 8 or 9 years old and dreaming about getting an Easy Bake Oven and a Chemistry Set (a real one). As Christmas approached, I was sure I would get one or maybe both. I was really “good” as the holiday approached just to be sure. I could visualize my[/u] Easy Bake Oven and taste the amazing cakes I would make. And I could see myself in my[/u] official white lab coat creating new polymers with my[/u] lab kit. Yes, I was sure I would get both!
Of course, things don’t always match our dreams. The holiday arrived and, as I ripped open packages, to the left I saw my older brother unwrapping
Now, imagine what it would be like if Gift Day was on a secret date. It could be 12/22 or 12/16 or 1/10 or some other totally random day. And there was no Santa. And we were all waiting for the perfect song gift. And, as the unnamed date maybe approached, we all got more excited. And someone Tweeted that something big was in the works “if they could pull it off”. But then someone Tweeted the date of Gift Day had moved later. Or worse, Tweeted they know the date of Gift Day but were not allowed to tell us the secret date, or the secret event, or even confirm the title of the song.
Oh I surrender – just release all three singles at once. Let the fans pick the lead single by buying the tracks on iTunes. At least it would give us something to do.
Yes, we live in a world where every night might be the “Night Before Christmas” and “visions of sugar-plums” dance in our heads every night. And today we hope for a hot dance track. And then we hope for a mid-tempo ballad. And some want neo-punk, others opera. And then we really just hope for any new Adam music.
Yes, we dream that we wake up to the radio alarm and hear Ryan Seacrest saying, “And now the surprise debut of the instant #1 hit single from Adam Lambert…..” but instead we hear LMFAO “Sexy And I Know It” for the 10,000th time! (Urg, I liked that song once!) And we think in unison – “What is this shit! When will we get new Adam music?”
OMR (Oh My Rah) no wonder we are all going a bit nuts.
Adam, RCA, DMG, somebody?, please just tell us a date and be normal. Stop this insanity before all the Adam fans lose their sanity.
Ryan plays the next song, Gaga’s “The Edgy of Glory”. I scream aloud to no one, “Yes, I am on the F’ing EDGE!!” as I switch off the radio .
While I wait for Adam. RCA, DMG, somebody?, to tell me the date, I have decided that I will….
Remember yesterday.
Dream of tomorrow.
But live for today.[/i][/color]
Well, just duh!!!

Clinton's Landmark LGBT Speech Shows Importance of Electing Pro-Equality Candidates
Huffington Post Gay Voices Posted: 12/ 6/11 05:55 PM ET
Today is truly a momentous day in human rights history. This morning President Barack Obama issued the first-ever executive memorandum dealing with the subject of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights worldwide and directing federal agencies working overseas to "promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons." Later, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a landmark address on LGBT rights in recognition of International Human Rights Day at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. (Watch it here.)
After acknowledging that America's own record on human rights for LGBT people is "far from perfect," Clinton told those gathered, "Like being a woman, like being a racial, religious, tribal, or ethnic minority, being LGBT does not make you less human. And that is why gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights." The Secretary went on to condemn laws, violence, and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, calling them violations of human rights. She specifically rebuked the false notion, popular in many religiously conservative nations, that homosexuality is some kind of Western phenomenon. Clinton condemned religion-based anti-LGBT bigotry, saying that "while we are each free to believe whatever we choose, we cannot do whatever we choose, not in a world where we protect the human rights of all." And she announced the creation by the United States government of a $3-million Global Equality Fund that will support the work of organizations working on LGBT rights issues worldwide.
