I'm neither appalled nor offended by the video - just clueless. How is this supposed to help alienated youth people of any age? Imo - watching the video is like looking at a piece of abstract art and trying to guess what it means. If you have to guess it's not doing its job.
Anyone see the play "Art"? It's about a blank canvas with everyone trying to pretend they know what the artist was trying to say. It's hilarious. This is certainly not a blank canvas. Quite the opposite, but I find it equally funny.

"And women have been touching themselves since Madonna too. Gaga isn't revolutionizing anything by doing this." Yes - I believe women were doing it even before! (Oh - on music videos!)
Well, I feel like Gaga totally acknowledges her debt to Madonna (similarly to how Adam does his to Boy George although I think some fans don't like that). Madonna said "Express Yourself" and in "Born That Way" Gaga does. But I still see Madonna as never letting herself appear TOO awkward, and there's no reason why she should, but what I find different and interesting about Lady Gaga is that she doesn't seem to limit hereself by worrying about whether or not others will think she's always and ever "pretty pretty" - especially when she's also being about sex. Madonna, Rhiana, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Xtina, and even Pink (who am I forgetting?) - I love all these pop princesses, but none of them go as "wild and weird" as Gaga does. That is her "thing" - she's a freaky freak, a "monster." No one else does that AND she does it with such loving attention to the details. (And, I don't think she's 100% about the money because if she is, she would stop working long enough to enjoy it! She never does that, which I'm not saying is a good thing, but - to me - makes me more convinced she IS very committed to what she's creating.)
I would guess that people who don't like ladies touching themselves on stage/video probably don't love when Adam does it. Not everyone does. I do. But obviously, that's only something he does sometimes. But, when he does, he gets pretty into it!
(I think some of Adam's fans are "a tough crowd" - and I mean that in a good way, as in discerning - because many of them aren't big into pop culture drivel, like I am - they're fans of really, really good music and voices - of which, there probably isn't really a LOT of in pop music. So, they might think: "Good lord, listen to this dreck out there! Adam is so much betterer." And I agree. But I like a lot of the other stuff, too.)
To me, Lady Gaga is more of a visual entertainer than a vocal one. I sort of see her songs as secondary to her stage and video presentations of them.
Would one say Adam is sometimes explicit on stage? Is Gaga? I'd say both are sometimes, in different ways, but Gaga definitely wears a lot less clothing a lot of the time.
ETA: For the record, I do like straightforward, story mv's, too. I thought Crystal Bowersox' mv was well-done and moving.

adamlambert Adam Lambert Wow new Gaga video is wild and weird! I love the super 60's psychedelic intro. Like Barbarella meets Alien. Not that it matters, but it's interesting to me that while he didn't say that he loved the entire video, he did point out the things that he DID like. Did anyone else take his tweet that way? Yes, my first thought was ADAM THE DIPLOMAT. Now, maybe he did like the entire thing, but he wasn't gushing the way he does over something by which he's really blown away.

Aloha, thank you for articulating my thoughts exactly. This video is about GAGA, her presentation, her perception that she is the greatest living artist, her narcissism , her immense ego...... makes me wonder if she really gives a flying f**k about her fans who are "Born this Way". I sure hope the music critics call her on this. This woman really overestimates her contribution to the history of pop culture. It has all been done before.

Re BTW video, let's just say I prefer better visuals with my LG songs I love this--esp. about the 4:28 mark - when we get a "rear" view. LOL Wish we had something like this vid that showed most of the dances with Brooke. They were sooo hot!
