You can be pop culture drive and not like Gaga.Annie Lennox was a pop culture icon with a great voice and video clips that were truly works of art.And this is only one example.I can think of many many more.
So lets not call her a singer but something else. We're losing the point of what a singer IS here.

annie what i love about Atop is that we can have a conversation like we do in a living room.Others talk about one subject, others about another subject and we are silly enough to play with pics and smileys ;D omg, i just watched that video the other week and i was wishing for a gif of this exact moment!!!! he's choosing weird swedish words and this one (kaka - sp?, meaning poop) cracks him up! hahahaha! he's so silly. See???Your wish became true ;D BTW kaka means poop also in Greek!! And we write exactly like this: κακα

O.K so I just saw BTW and I had to comment.Feel free to scroll if this has been discussed to death. I'm going to have to quote Simon on this one: Born This Way:The good, the bad and the ugly. The good: I loved the unicorn.I loved the Thierry Mugler collaboration.I think it was beautifully shot .The dance scenes were fun. The bad: The birth scenes and introduction .A. viewers are smarter than that.C'mon .B.It doesn't matter how you look at it-it's freaky. C. it's just SO pretentious. The ugly: the whole alien thing. It just doesn't look good.I love Sci-Fi but isn't the song about celebrating humans? I was expecting a new twist on Michel Jackson's Black or white but O.K. I really don't think the video had a lot to do with the song except for the introduction. Besides, I really didn't feel this video was cohesive. All of you here are the reason I don't post very often; you all say it for me so beautifully:-) However, as it's in my nature to be opinionated:-), I'd only add that I watched that video three times in a row, just to be sure of my opinion of it. So, while i don't exclude it could change in time, my first take is that it doesn't inspire anything in me, unfortunately, and I was really hoping for something!anything!I like some parts, and others not at all, or better, they seem kind of predictably boring to me. The video as a whole doesn't seem very weird, only kind of pretentious. The intro falls somewhere between pretentious and naive to me. Now don't get me wrong, I admire Gaga for her overall courage, and I really like several of her songs ( Poker face, i.e., I loooove)and think she's a good singer and songwriter (apart from this song-all I hear is Express yourself, Vogue and When love takes over mashed together!!) but I don't think she's as innovative or original as she (herself, nevertheless:-))claims she is. Maybe that's my problem with her- I just don't like anyone blowing his/her own horn so much, it just seems waaaaay too egoistical for my taste. If you're really good or whatever, there's no need to say it ( and keep repeating it over and over again, might I add). But then I start thinking, does it really matter, if she's this or that? At the end, it comes down to the music; and in this case, sadly, I don't think either the audio or the video are very memorable or even very good. As for the viewers being smarter than that...eh, who knows? In my experience, a lot of people are smart/er, and a lot simply aren't. Maybe that's too strong a statement. My point is that maybe/hopefully a lot of them will get that point about the new world and race without prejudice and get inspired to be more accepting of others- who knows how the human mind works? Personally, I prefer other, more subtle/warmer/humane ways of expressing or invoking those feelings ( and that's why I love Adam and his music). That doesn't make my way better, only different. I feel this world is big enough for all of us and our different ways, so that's why, ultimately, and after all this rant : , I must conclude that I don't really care about Gaga's new video but I wish her all the best btw, angelcrash, MJ's Black or white-one of my fav videos EVER- I stumbled upon it like a week ago on VH1, and cried watching it-so inspiring, so warm, so beautiful I remember being, what, 10 years old?, and being completely fascinated by those russian kazachok dancers in the snow, and those changing faces at the end- ahhhh the memories..
