I've loved all this discussion, because though I would classify myself as agnostic/New Agey and can VERY MUCH relate to Adam – growing up in a not-so-religious household, but having a lot of traditions that were more about fun and ritual than religion. (In my case, based in Catholicism, but we never went to Midnight Mass or rarely went to Christmas Mass ...) But I've been through a lot of the New Agey reading that seems to resonate with Adam and I'm right there with him.
I believe there is a positive, benevolent energy in the universe and your thoughts can help tap into and channel that energy – what you call it is unique to every individual and I have no desire to try to quantify it or prove it to another. For my purposes, it's just a way of thinking – live and let live and all that.
I do find religion fascinating in a historical, cultural respect. I love all the history, art, architecture, iconography, etc.
Coming from a similar background as Adam, I have to question this contention though, Hoppers:
IMO, that has nothing to do with his "Jew-ishness" (as he's phrased it – he said 'I'm Jew-ish' when people wished him Happy Passover and others were wishing him a Happy Easter in 2010). I think it has everything to do with him not wanting to be forced into some religious corner. For instance, when people ask if he'll record a Christmas album or if he's observing certain holidays – he sidesteps politely by evoking his heritage so not to offend anyone and thwarts any attempts at being "converted."
Damn smart, if you ask me.
ETA: LOL, while I was posting and getting distracted, it looks like MWP and HSM hashed all this out. #late

Can I just say I am floving all the RT by peeps on my feed who love the song, and I LOVE even more when I go to their page and see it's not someone who is a regular stan/fan and/or someone who obvsly likes music that's not even closely related to Adam? YAY! I couldn't wait for the song to be played in Radio... and how ear-wormy the song is.. |
