Rewatched THE QAL story documentary on Netflix. Because it’s so good. But anyone get struck when Adams like “because the stakes were so high for me”. I always assumed he was talking about the Freddie disclaimer etc. But wonder deeper then that. His solo career was kinda in free fall zone. I wonder if Queen was a calculated risk. That obviously payed off. It’s also amazing when they talk about How Freddie could do it all. Like in the 1992 tribute show. They had to get the most famous music artists to do one show. As no one had that diverse range like Freddie. And barring a miracle. No one would ever. Then Adam walked in.

I love that documentary so much...I keep watching it because I keep finding new things that slipped by me each time. There is so much information there, especially since I didn't know anything about Queen before Adam joined them. I do think that Queen was a risk in some ways. He couldn't be sure if he would have time for both solo and QAL probably, but also, once he joined Queen, would they take over his career or would he be able to be solo at the same time...could he be solo Adam and Queen Adam at the same time. I get the feeling, from listening to some of his interviews, that being able to do solo music is very important to Adam. |
