This is for those folks here who are really into trained singing and musical theater. The rest can scroll. Remember back when the movie of Les Misérables came out and Adam tweeted criticism of it because of the poor singing? He roundly got raked over the coals and people said "what the hell does he know?" Well, he knows because he is a highly trained singer who even studied opera for a year. And he had done musical theater since the age of nine. And he was right. The singing in this movie SUCKED. It was justified by "we wanted it to be live, and to seem more 'real life'" IT'S A FRICKIN MUSICAL! In real life I have never seen anyone burst into song while dying. This video (yeah, it is 38 minutes long, so only for those interested in proper singing and musical theater will find it fascinating.) explains all that was wrong with the singing and how close they may have come to damaging their voices doing it for the film. Just parenthetically, you know how Adam often talks about the importance of hydrating and drinking lots of water to keep the voice strong? That comes up in the critiques as Hugh Jackman drank nothing for 36 hours to lose weight to look emaciated and weak in part of the film. And how it affected his singing. youtu.be/1ikqU6G6Xgs

Omg, Cassie, thank you!!! I love that kind of stuff...love all the technical aspects of the singing reviews, especially all the gushing that experts do over Adam's singing and techniques.
Something to look forward to this afternoon...I suppose lunch for hubby needs to come first lol.
Thanks so much for posting that.

HA!! I remember all the drama over Adam saying he did not enjoy the singing in Les. I'm not a trained singer, or any kind of singer for that matter. But I know what I like and don't like. And I did not enjoy most of the singing either, lol. A lot of people felt the same way, even many critics, but he got all the grief and the headlines. But as Adam said, it is hard to win those arguments in the press. And it just gave people who did not like him another chance to pile on in comment sections. A few (some Idol fans of others) even gleefully said he had killed his career and all other opportunities. WTF! It wasn't as if he was a leading box office draw and putting everything on the line. He was a fantastic vocalist giving his opinion. He still is. And he did not suffer for said opinion. QAL filled those arenas and stadiums just fine and Adam even got a few acting gigs, great guest spots and vocal judging opportunities.

I don't have time to listen to that vid just now....but I remember being appalled at just how bad that film was. Les Mis was/is my fav musical and I have listened to the original sound track more times than I can begin to count. My favourite Jean Val Jean is still Colm Wilkinson.... I have seen the live show done professionally 4 times...and all were a factor of at least 10 better than the film. Fantine/Anne Hathaway was good, I thought, but the rest sucked.... sad...and so unnecessary!!

Just a quick reply to Oliver's comment. Good for him! He is not afraid to show who he truly is. He and Adam are indeed cut from the same cloth. That connection is obvious. We'll see how their relationship goes. Oliver's college experience here in the US could be life-changing in a good way. I'm just hoping they both wind up happy.
I remember the Les MIz drama when Adam spoke his piece about the vocals. It was a brief kerfluffle. I'm with Adam. I like "musicals" to have really good singers. JMO
