"Starting September 23, go behind the music of some the most powerhouse rockers in the industry. AC/DC, Guns ‘N Roses, and Adam Lambert share their journeys to success and their personal stories of hardships and triumphs along the way in MTV’s Behind the Music podcast." With so many publications recognizing Adam as rock as often as pop, I hope his rock and roll musical and album will finally see his music get put is some categories other than just pop. "Velvet" was a mixture of funk rock, soul and pop but it ended up only in the bloated pop arena where music goes unnoticed unless you are Ariana, Camila, LNX, Weeknd, Harry or Taylor, etc. He has been fronting Queen for almost 10 years and rocking arenas and stadiums and his solo music has always been a mixture of genres (ballads, pop, pop-rock, rock, soul). So it would not be a stretch for him to compete in areas not dominated by the pop divas and several heavy streaming male singers and rappers. Fans often say they don't know what to do with Adam because he is so diverse but that is really untrue. They always put him in the pop categories where he is often overlooked. No reason why he has to be put in the same box and never allowed to compete outside of the youth or female dominated genre. Fingers crossed that he will break out of the same old same old. I see your point wanting Adam to be seen for more than just "pop" as he has shown that he can convincingly sing anything including rock. I have the feeling though that Adam himself doesn't even want to portray himself as a "rocker". I remember that as early as Idol, when he was told by Kara that he was a "rock god" and when Randy told him that he should make a rock record, Adam still felt strongly about making a "modern pop record". Additionally, despite serving as the front man for Queen, "Velvet" was clearly different in sound and felt more like a pop record, which to me is more of an umbrella term anyways. Yes, Adam can sing rock, R&B, funk, soul, ballads and what not, but is his musical identity the one of a rocker? If I listen to his albums or look at some of his standout performances within the past 10+ years I don't really see an artist that does rock. And I absolutely love "Velvet" btw. May be in Adam's case we need to forget thinking about genres in a competitive sense. My two cents only. To add ... of course I am keeping my fingers crossed that Adam's musical will have an impact and give him additional recognition. Not sure how far past the beginning stages it is.

I agree with you, Sizzling. I think Adam can sing rock, but I don't think of him as a rocker, either. He can pretty much sing any genre, so it's really hard to pigeonhole him.
I understand your frustration, Lurleene, about the pop category. I'm not really sure who decides which musical category to try and market Adam in...don't understand enough about the music industry and the various strategies behind it.
Maybe Adam needs to pull a Lil Nas X and do a collab with a country artist lol. Just kidding...sort of.

After all, Adam already touched the country genre with "Girl Crush" and "Ring of Fire" and it didn't go unnoticed

He could do some country song and turn it on its head...he's really, really good at that. Or do a duet with Kelly (lol, she's the only "country" I can think of at the moment). I haven't listened to country in well over a couple of decades, but it used to be my favorite music genre.

May be in Adam's case we need to forget thinking about genres in a competitive sense. My two cents only. Good points. But I wasn't going all the way back in time at the beginning of his career where he said he wanted to be the next Timberlake, lol. It didn't happen. But he also said his next album would be rock and roll like the musical. Maybe he did not mean that but a girl can hope no matter how many times I'm told to forget it. HA. Besides if Miley, Billie, Panic and Harry can try in rock as well as pop, I really don't see why I can't view Adam in that light. They don't exactly scream hard rockers to me. And hard rock is not the only form of rock. And most of his music is not very pop, imo, and he has some rock cuts on his albums. He seems to be one of the few artists where he is limited and kept in one box with the lid on tight. If he showed up on stage with twenty or more dancers, and boring choreographed dance routines all the time, it would make sense to me. But he doesn't. Or if he were viewed as one of the pop darlings. But he isn't. So I find it rather weird. Tho, if I'm being honest, I'm not actually expecting him to be competitive anyplace. Time and circumstances may have passed and the pop darlings are only going to get younger and younger.
