Checking in: this week - 0, total - 0 I have an excuse though - we spent new year vacations in the country house and had guests the whole week, some of them even lived with us, so it was one constant celebration. Fun, but bad on the waist :-((( I did exercises every morning - stretching and twisting mainly - and had to go up and down the stairs all the time, but it was a little help. I know for sure that my main problem is a bad schedule. Usually I go to bed at about four in the morning and have to get up at nine-ten, so I'm always a bit sleepy and stressed, and have to fight off mom's concern (and advices) about my money problems and a bad example for my son, who's picking up my bad habits Really, really stressful I don't like to make new year's resolutions, but unofficially I promised myself to fight that late night habits (it's difficult - like now, when I'm waiting for my laundry to be done, because the electricity cheaper at night). Wish all of you good luck! BTW, I found information on 'Hilton Head Metabolism Diet' here - www.everydiet.org/diet/hilton-head-diet It's not much, but interesting to read. Thank you, irish1139, for tip-off.

First week check in: Goal 10 lbs., this week -0.5 lb., total -0.5 lb. I'm impressed with how well most people are doing, wow!!! Wish I could lose weight that fast! Oh well, at least I'm going in the right direction. Have gotten a pretty good start on reducing the size of portions and substituting veggies for fattening snacks. Also have exercised at least a little every day except yesterday and that's a whole new thing for me. Thanks to everyone for the support and ideas! Going to start keeping track of my waist measurement too, hadn't thought of that before.

First week check in: Goal - 15 lb; lost 3 lb.
I love this thread because it give me encouragement to stay on a path, to not make any excuses, to be honest, and most of all do this for myself - TO FEEL BETTER. Oh man, I sit at a desk 10-12 hours a day, and when I get home, I sit at the computer goggling over Adam-ness til bed time. Can I blame by 15 lb weight gain on Adam? :-[
I'd say, uh, no. I got really lazy, excited over everything that is Adam, gah, the music. I'm DED I tell you, in fact listening to BTIKM right now. ....where was I? Oh yes, the diet...
I'm staying with my commitment to drink only 2 cups of coffee a day, 40 oz. of water, more protein and less bread, rice and potatoes. The carbs are not my friend and in fact make me very sleepy. Also switched to more fresh veggies and fruits and everything in smaller portions. So far, it worked. Baby steps, baby steps. Everything in moderation.
Like jablea suggested, I park in a garage at my office building and have a pretty good walk to the entry. I've also switched to walking up 2 flights of stairs instead of riding the escalator. Trouble is, I can't walk DOWN stairs but at least I do get in a lot walking on my floor every day.
All for one, one for all. YAY!!!!
Now I'm gonna go check out today's Adam thread. And I love those photos of A&S at Whole Foods. ROCK GAWD.

JanuarySnow. Thanks for the tip on the New Hilton Head Diet. I was still using the 1983 version. The 1983 version is much less food. I have ordered a copy from Amazon of the updated diet book. It looks really interesting and has you eating five times a day instead of four. Interesting.
The only bad thing about this diet is the food preparation. It is a lot of cutting, steaming, measuring, weighing. I feel like I am putting a lot of time into lunch and dinner. Making chicken salad, shrimp salad, etc. takes a lot more time than slapping a piece of ham and cheese on a slice of bread. Oh well, as long as the weight comes off. I miss ketchup too. And four cans of diet coke a day. I think I feel better though without all that diet coke. When the water gets too boring I slip a squirt or two of lemon into my bottle and it makes all the difference.

Tuesday - The PlankThese may look like they are a push-up and for your shoulders but they are not. Planks are for your belly. I'll be back with pictures...... I'm back Those of you who were with me on our shape up journey last year might remember this as I was struggling but doing my best to do this and count to 10. But I kept doing it all year and now I can get all the way up to my toes and count to 100. twice, yeah. Don't go thinking it's easy unless you've tried it but if that's still too tame then check out this for variations. I'm going to try #6 maybe later tonight. www.bodyresults.com/e2planks.asp

Checking in.. finally. You have great results! Yay! Just keep on My week went good until weekend. I ate too much Phishfood.. ;D I really have to work at my self-discipline. ;D But still I managed to lose 4 lbs. So.. Goal 25, this week 4, total 4. Other goal was to exercise four times a week and I excercised only three times. (PS. Yes, I changed my "name". The previous one didn't feel comfortable any more.. ;D)

JanuarySnow - I clicked on the link you found for the HiltonHead diet, and found this: www.beyonddiet.com/bd/landing?food=avocadoIt is a video, about 30 minutes that has a lot of good info on fat burning, metabolism, and what foods help to keep you from burning fat. It also sells it's diet program, but it is worth a listen. The last 10 minutes is pimping the program they offer, but the info in the first part was really interesting! Thanks!

I just found out that an update to the Hilton Head Diet was published in 1990. I ordered a copy from Amazon. I also found some old books of the diet (the one I am using is from 1983) on Amazon. I hope to at least get more recipes from the new 1990 update. The recipes in the 1983 copy are pretty good, and I use them a lot.
I went to my heart doctor today. Things look okay, but I still have to take the heart medication. Damn. Anyway I had to get on the scale, and I found out I was down a pound from yesterday. I will save that pound to add onto next Monday's total (if there are more pounds to add). Hopeful, forever hopeful.
The above video is very good. However, I joined that diet program and following the registration was bombarded for three pages selling books and parts of the program they wanted you to buy in addition to the registration fee. Made me so mad at this kind of advertising and solicitation after you pay (instead of before) that I quit and got my money back. I am such a bitch in my old age. I surprise myself sometimes because I used to be so nice. Talk to you tomorrow. Keep on keepin on. You can do it. Brush your teeth a lot. Chew sugarless gum. Drink lots of water. Eat a celery stick if you can't wait for the next meal.
