This is from Sauli's blog today, everyone is talking about it! Here is the most motivating part of it: I started jogging actively for about three years ago and it has already become a habit. I really do get into a bad mood if for some reason I can’t go out for a run. Usually starting a new sport or any kind of active exercise is often difficult for us all. I remember when I started jogging that at first it felt pretty boring and it was easy to come up with a reason why I couldn’t go for a run. I guess this is a familiar feeling for many of you too? You just have to make exercising to become a way of living for yourself, and not just a compulsive feeling of doing something. After you get that feeling into your head, you’re hooked! I don’t even think it as jogging anymore but it has become a way of living, and a part of my daily routine. In my opinion every one of us got to have some time, an hour or at least half an hour daily, for sports or to exercise. There are millions of excuses and I can’t say that I haven’t used some of them sometimes myself. I’m not trying to make an epitome of sports of myself here, but based on my own experiences it’s great to urge other people to exercise. Daily exercise is the best medicine for the minds of us all! At least it’s hardly harmful to anyone! Thank you mahailia for bringing over Sauli's encouraging words ... he really appears to be a "ray of sunshine" on everything ... what a positive attitude !! - the part that resonates the hardest with me is: Daily exercise is the best medicine for the minds of us all! At least it’s hardly harmful to anyone! I am someone who dislikes/resists/makes excuses about exercise .... and it is the best medicine and NOT harmful ... So I'm upping my exercise action and consciousnesses as of today.

Thursday - BicyclingSo my knee has been bothering me even for walking. Got out the real bike yesterday and took each of the dogs for a spin. Decided to bite the bullet and get an indoor bike. Freddy's had these on sale, really good reviews at Amazon, so I bought one. About an hour to put together. Haven't used it yet but very quiet in the test run. www.amazon.com/Marcy-ME709-Recumbent-Mag-Cycle/dp/B002KV1MJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325746880&sr=8-1Oh, and how nice that Sauli is joining us (well let's pretend so anyway) in a quest for in-shapeness.

Looks like everyone is off to a great start, and has good plan! This is my first check in. Monday got off to a rocky start when a friend showed up with homemade cookies.. .. Well, I ate one..er two... And gave the rest away discreetly, lol Since then I have been making healthier choices. One thing I have decided, is not to get frustrated if I slip up, but just move on to a healthier choice next meal. Guilt isn't healthy either. So my goal is to drop a size, (20 lbs ?) a lower AC1, and healthy habits like lunch time walks, and using the stairs at work, less junk food, more vegetarian. I am also getting back to regular meditation, because I need to reduce stress too. I eat more when I am stressed out. You else thinks Sauli should make an exercise video... With a guest star.

Just checking in. Yesterday I felt like eating, and I felt like I ate too much, but I did stay with all low carb foods. I'm weighing every AM ( it works for me) and it appears that no harm was done. : I often try to figure out my eating triggers. I know I do well when I'm stanning on the internet. The kitchen is downstairs and I really get engrossed in what I'm doing and don't even think much about eating at all. My problem is that I usually watch TV or a movie at night to spend time with DH - even when I'm not that interested (in TV I mean - ). THAT'S WHEN I WANT A SNACK. I've found that in the past that I don't do any nibbling when I have a jigsaw puzzle going and work on that while I watch TV - so today I'm going to get out a puzzle and set it up. My activity yesterday was walking a 2/3 mile track and doing the Nautilus equipment along the way. Man, do I need to build up endurance and reps on the equipment. I think I will try to use the spin counts etc. for rep goals on the equipment. Anyway - it's a start. YAY! How are the other 25 goal folks doing? Everyone else? Hang in there. Everyone says it gets easier after the first few days. I'm trying to remind myself - I want to be a sparkle gazelle, NOT a sparkle cow!!!!

I'm still motivated. Hooray. My granddaughter called me last night to buy some girl scout cookies. I ordered five boxes but I am going to give them to her to put in her freezer. They always have a houseful of kids so they can eat them. Now that is out of my mind where it will stay and I will not think of those cookies again. I will not think of those cookies again. I will not think of those cookies again.
Today I am eating:
Breakfast: same as yesterday
Lunch: Tossed salad with 2 tablespoons of diet dressing, 1 whole wheat kaiser roll, ice tea
Dinner: Baked chicken (5 oz.)(baking it in salsa) Medium Baked Potato (no butter) Spinach (with lots of garlic) Strawberries (1/2 cup) drizzled with 2 tbs. vanilla yougurt 1 diet coke
Snack: 1/4 cup cottage cheese 1/2 apple (this snack is good with the apple grated into the cottage cheese with a little apple pie spice on it.)
Is anybody watching Revenge on Wednesday night. It was really good last night.
Walked around the grocery store this a.m. and my feet are swollen. Time for my white stockings. Talk to you all tomorrow. My scale is fixed but waiting for Monday to weigh in. Changed the battery and the digital 00 lit up.

I'm still doing great I'm very happy that I managed 3 miles jog today as the roads were partly wet snow and partly icy. I'm not able to report again until Sunday. I'm leaving to summer cottage. The sea is probably going to freeze soon so this is the last time we are able to go there this winter until the ice is thick enough for walking.

Hey. I made a long post in here early today. Someone even answered me. Where did it go? Was I deleted? Did I say something wrong?
Nevermind. I put it in the recipe thread. Dumb blond moment. Here it is.
Hi guys. Didn't realize there was a new thread. I'll sign on as cheerleader and recipe poster. I've never had a weight problem, but my husband has always had one. I do think that to some extent, weight and metabolism are hereditary. Everyone on my mother's side of the family has always remained thin and we eat whatever the hell we want. However, everything has always been home made with almost no processed foods at all.
Anyway, high protein/low carb has worked great for my husband. He recently lost 30+ pounds and went down 2 waist sizes. You can eat butter, bacon, marbled red meat, whole milk and cream, etc. Just try to eliminate most carbs. Dinners are a meat/fish/poultry and a large amount of veggies. Again, fresh is better, but frozen is good too. Just stay away from the ones with the sauces - butter is better than processed gunk.
I make him an omelette to take to work for breakfast. No bread, muffins, etc. Lunch is a whole wheat wrap, salad or dinner leftovers. It only takes me about 10 minutes to make breakfast and lunch for him in the morning, it's better than eating out and it saves a hell of a lot of money. It takes the same amount of time to make something and bring it as it does stopping at a drive thru.
He is diabetic also. He now uses organic blue agave instead of sugar. It's all natural, tastes great and has 0 calories. It's in the baking isle at most grocery stores.
He doesn't drink fruit juice or soda. I make lemonade with the agave and he mixes that with flavored sugar free seltzer.
I rarely buy snacks anymore. Football snacks are raw veggies with a dip. A plate of cheese and cold cuts - no crackers. Popcorn with real butter every once in a while.
I still make potatoes, rice and pasta - but only every other week or so. I make a larger portion of veggies for dinner and if he's still hungry, he takes the bowl into the LR and finishes them.
He still has occasional desserts. However, since cutting back on sweets, he hardly has cravings for them. He even lost two pounds over the holidays. Even with a few cookies.
This is an ironic story. My dog has had a skin condition for years, and my vet was not treating it properly. I researched on the internet and found out what it was and the medication and shampoo that was needed. In researching this, I read that dogs and cats should not eat grains. They're natural carnivores - duh. I started reading the labels on the dog food and snacks and the main ingredient is grain and a bunch of chemicals. I now buy grain free all natural food for her. It costs a little more, but it's sooo worth it. With the meds and diet change, her condition was gone in just a few weeks and hasn't come back . In a month she went from 22 pounds to 17 pounds (she's always been a little over weight). She used to sleep late and didn't play a lot. She's 12 years old and now that the grain has been eliminated from her diet, she's up at 6 am for our morning walk and wants to play all the time. I just think it's so cool that my loved ones are getting skinner, happier and healthier eating high protein and low carbs.
This might not work for everyone, but I just wanted to share my experience. I'll post recipes in the recipe thread when I think of them.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

And this one.........
Mahalia and anyone else who ever wants to quit smoking. I quit for 6 months using the electronic cigarette. I LOVED to smoke. I've done so since I was 11 and I'm 52. That was a pretty long time. You get your nicotine fix, without the smoke and carcinogens. You also get to simulate smoking. The tip lights up when you inhale and you suck in a vapor that blows out looking like smoke.
That being said, I was a stupid ass and went back to real smoking. I really don't know why, because the e-cigs worked great. I have COPD and when I quit, I felt sooo much better. Now I'm wheezing and coughing again. It sucks. I just ordered 6 cartons of real cigs, so I won't be quitting until they're gone. But I fully intend to.

Friday – Planned Snacking
Most diets incorporate a snack between the major meals but new research (courtesy Dr. Oz in my local paper) says that the mid-morning snack is better skipped because there is usually less time between breakfast and lunch than there is between lunch and dinner. Because you are usually legitimately hungry by then, the afternoon snack helps train your body to only eat when it’s hungry and not just when it’s bored.
Like 8toinfinity I need to figure out my triggers. Most meals trigger me into a chocolate seeker. I guess I need to use Stampsgal’s apple dessert recipe. Some work items make me get up and pace to think about it and since I work from home lots of things are within reach.
