Most artists don't 'hit big' until second, third, even fourth albums. As far as Idol, Kelly is THE ONLY Idol thus far to have a sophomore album sell more than her debut. Except that with the state of the record industry and all the music that gets stolen these, days, the criteria for success of a 2nd album has changed. And for Idols, it is a whole different ball game. If I'm not mistaken, most 2nd albums would be considered a success if they can sell 75% of what the first one did. The figure may even be lower. However, I think Adam is in a unique situation. I honestly think his first album "broke ground" for him among the public and radio stations. I truly feel that album #2 and the first single, will be more quickly accepted by radio. I think album #2 will do better than #1. It will go platinum in less than a year. Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! OK, off to donate in honor of DHunken You saved me having to write the same thing. It is hard to remember now how dicey the FYE release was. Cover was not well received. The first single was not right for the US or most of the world outside of Asia. He had the AMAs to deal with and RCA stood by him and never wavered. The continued to promote Adam to radio and support him everywhere. Adam has two hit songs in the US, a large, extremely loyal fanbase, a GN, he will have to release a real POS for it not to get radio airplay. If the lead single from Adam #2 is a miss -- and many lead singles are -- RCA will just release another single or two.

(my guess is "pretty awful stinker" but I'm sure it's something more technical than that) ETA Wait! That's not an A! I take back my guess.

I am still catching up with this thread -- but there is no such thing as "organic radio airplay" for pop music in the US. Even college radio is promoted now. That died out when the corporations bought out FM radio starting in the mid-1970's. BUT perceived fan demand can convince a PD to increase the rotations on a promoted song -- in other words, real not orchestrated, fan requests matter. I didn't word this very well. Is the DVD/Charity Single A test to see what Adam can sell without traditional Radio money and play? They seem to be pushing advertising more than they did the acoustic CD. Are they going to try A new way to sell Adam through Social Media? No, I do not think this is a test of whether Adam can sell an album without radio support. This is an interim product that is intended to 1. Make more money from FYE album and 2. Keep Adam's fans engaged while they produce Adam #2. (They do not want Adam to be forgotten link Xtina, Daughtry and others who were dark too long. My bet is David Cook will face this unless that album has a big radio single and is a quality album. Look at how had they have had to work the radio on Daughtry second album -- and the sales were good but much lower than expected. Also, Glam Nation will not be released without radio support -- depending on country -- it has 2 to 5 radio hits on it. When they have a new album, they will be back spending money on radio at least for a song or two. ETA: I am heartbroken about Donald. He was a person with such a good heart and kindness They would is not as good without him but I guess heaven is a bit more crowded.

I'm having a little argument discussion with a friend. I need you guys to tell me if Adam has commented on James Durbin before last ight? I thought that last night was his first time watching this season and his first comments on anyone besides the new judges??? This has probably already been answered, just catching up again on the thread. But, as I recall, this is the ONLY tweet Adam has made regarding Durbin. Plus, as I recall, this is the only tweet Adam has made regarding this years Idol. So far I remember him in interviews saying he had not watched Idol at all this year. His tweet referred to him "catching up". You are correct from my recollection :D
