Also, can someone explain MIDI to me? I grew up with piano, not keyboards and I'm unfamiliar with the terminology (and this acronymn is everywhere. ) While the best technical description can be found somewhere else (like Wikipedia), I will do my best to be as non-technical as possible. In our daily lifes, we are used to digital music stored on CDs or files (WAV, MP3 etc) as a numerical description of the frequencies that have to be reproduced by the output device (headphones, boxes etc.) so we can hear the approximate representation of what the microphone recorded. MIDI on the other hand is a specification that allows musical instruments (typically electronic keyboards, but there are various forms of MIDI controllers) to communicate information about the actual performance. In a way, you can think of the MIDI information as of the notes written on paper to communicate the composition from one musician to another. But the MIDI specification sends messages over multiple channels about when and how the artist pressed a key on the keyboard (including the corresponding note, the velocity of the keypress, any additional variation in pressure after the initial activation), and when the key was released. Additional messages can be send about various pedals and pitch bend wheels included in the keyboard. Another way to think of this is a digital-age version of the Player Piano The MIDI information can be transferred to a digital instrument (or even the sound card of a PC which nowadays includes an emulation of the legendary Roland GS MIDI - in the early 90s, I had to spend a lot of money to buy the real one), or can be saved to a file for later play back. If you send a MIDI file to a MIDI device, it will reproduce the exact performance recorded on the keyboard. So instead of recording the sounds like the MP3 does, it is recording the artist's input.

Hello! Hahahahahahah this is absurd. Title of Sauli's blog yesterday was OOFTA, and no explanation. He posted a new entry tonight; that was all about a friend of his who was visiting. Not a word about OOFTA. And now Adam. I'm still wondering if Sauli had just scribbled something on his hand and now they are both laughing at us : To me that would be funnier than if it really was a tattoo that said OOFTA and there was some explanation to what it is about.

I'm forever posting at the end of threads, and I never do this, but I'm bringing over the post I just left on the last thread. Was thinking about bringing it over anyway but after reading Juniemoon's essay I decided to do it.
Juniemoon, re being weird -- I remember thinking when I was a teenager "dear god, don't let me be normal" (and I feel that's a quote from somewhere, but have no idea where), but the older I get the more I realize how 'not normal' I am. My kids have been kind enough to point it out to me too, lol. Not that any of THEM make any attempt to be normal. But I used to try, and I put up a pretty good facade. But it got much harder over time to pretend to be anything other than who I am. Which is sometimes very good and sometimes very bad and sometimes very embarassing.

Love both the posts quoted above, but especially the bolded part of rabbitrabbit's post. I guess I have a tendency to do a little navel gazing too, lol. I believe in the power of visualization and the setting of intentions, but I'm not as good as I'd like to be about actually using that in my own life. I have friends who have successfully used this approach in their lives, and my daughter does so regularly with remarkable results. And letting go of expectations and attachment to results has been incredibly difficult for me, but I've actually been able (forced?) to learn that over time.
Adam for me is an example of someone doing just what rabbitrabbit has said -- setting his intention(s), putting them out to the universe, and creating abundance in his life -- both literally and metaphorically. I am one of the people who finds that Adam's voice resonates for me in a powerful way. But POSSIBLY even more important than the voice for me, is the fact that I admire the way he lives his life -- especially his courage and determinedly positive energy. None of us are perfect, but I admire his ongoing effort to live his dreams and continue to learn and evolve. I'm attempting to do the same thing.
Blah blah blah. I have said a lot of these things before and I'm tired and feel like I'm stumbling over my words. I have very little time to stan right now, but I'm ok with that. I've been stanning since May '09; time to be a little more present in my own life. I have big things I would still like to do/be/experience. I am looking at era 2 with a mixture of excitement and detached curiosity. There has never been any doubt in my mind about Adam's success. I can't and don't want to predict the degree of that success, but I have no desire to nitpick or worry about it. His talent is being recognized, he's being given tons of opportunities, people are flying in to LA from all over the world to interview him (to me this HAS to have significance), and lots of people appear to love the new single. I feel it's likely that Trespassing will be more successful, possibly a lot more, than FYE. There will always be people who don't care for his voice, his style, or whatever, but most of them aren't 'haters'. Everyone has obstacles, and Adam has actually, I feel, broken some of them down already, for himself and probably for others who follow him. For myself, I suspect that I will love a lot of this new album and era, but that there will probably be a few things that I don't like as well as the last era. That's just life. And reality, lol. Didn't mean to go on so long, and I won't be surprised if when I hit 'post', I'll find the new thread is up. Oh well!
p.s. Also love this part of Skylar's post:
On a more shallow note...I agree with those who don't care for the Paris pictures. And I also agree that the Vevo performance look was the absolute pits. The Vevo commercial pics, where he's jumping on the bed, were great, tho. Young Hollywood wasn't that bad, although I didn't like it at the time. Love so many of his looks, but have to say that he's looking pretty spectacular right now.
ETA: sorry, messed up the quotes from Fanoftheman and rabbitrabbit, and not sure how to fix it.
