Before I say something about my specific situation I wanted to briefly comment on the ongoing discussion. Yes, celebrities sign up for public scrutiny and with that also comes sometimes public judgment, sarcasm, jokes, ridicule or even hatred. It is sad enough that it is that way. As an individual the only thing I can do and need to do about this is ask myself whether I am contributing to this situation or whether I use my own two cents to make the situation better, the day overall a bit righter, brighter, lighter and for whom. What the rest of the world does is not my responsibility, because I cannot control that. But when I read that people excuse their own bad behavior with the fact that celebrity have to put up with that, then these are just not people I agree with or want to be friends with, tbh, that’s all. Whether the person that is harassed is somebody who is gay or black or a foreigner or somebody who is socially awkward, the story is each time the same. Fun and jokes are sometimes a difficult terrain. It is a good thing to make people laugh, so that makes the world brighter, right? Well if I do it on the back of somebody else, is it still ok? What is more important, the protection of the one who gets dissed or hurt in the process or the entertainment of those who are entertained? I prefer entertainment that stays away from such kind of topics. There’s a thin line between the dark side and the light side…somebody close to our heart is singing. A profound line in an otherwise quite light-weight kind of a song (IIHY). And a personal decision to be made by each person, with the celebrity living the result of the ten thousand such individual choices coming together...... . Huh?????????? I thought members here were simply commenting on a performance that Adam tweeted about. How is that any different than when we discuss Gaga or Christina A. after Adam praises one of them? Can we not dislike someone's vocal performance because they have a disability that doesn't hinder them from singing correctly or in tune? Everything about Durbin's performance on Conan was laughable. The two guitar dudes (who don't have any type of disabilities) were hilarious with their hair flipping! Durbin's vocal performance was an off-pitch mess. That is my opinion and that opinion has ZERO to do with his disabilities.

I know everyone is excited about the end of this thread and the promise of something new but I just caught up and have one thing to throw into the discussion.
On the comment section of Adam's youtubes there are always people who pour hate on Adam because he is gay. The response to this kind of post is almost always "hey, who cares what he is, judge him on his singing!" I think other artists deserve the same. I think if we discussed only Durbins singing ability we would have had much less disagreement today.

For myself when I sometimes want to revisit an old discussion (we've discussed the same issues surrounding Durbin in depth in one or two daily threads before for example) the proboards search on this site is actually very good. You can look up a topic and call up as many posts as you want that mention it, or search by poster if you remember that somebody said something interesting about it in the past.
Goodnight (or good morning or good day) all! Next week should be aweeessssomme

*sighs* May I say that all the lecturing and admonitions are just as off-putting. *cue dramatic exit* (nah...haha! ) THIS. If I don't argue with my FRIENDS who am I going to argue with? My enemies? Families are like that. I am here to listen to ANYONE who agrees or disagrees with me. I am here to say my opinion and be serious and laugh and be silly, I am FREE to do what I want, always being polite of course. And what I love about this board is that people are always polite to eachother. I could write and write and write more about this, but I won't.I just had to say a few words to get it out of my chest.

Yes, today has been an odd day. Tomorrow let's have less Durbin. Please remember that all of us come from different cultures, demographics, political backgrounds and religious beliefs, and we will not always agree on what is correct or desirable opinions, beliefs and behavior. As long discussions are carried on in a civil, open way without blaming, accusing or lecturing, all is good. THANK YOU.

Adam tweeted about jd's performance, so it was bound to get some discussion here today. As Rabbit said, we 've had this same discussion on other threads in the past, but with new people landing on Atop all the time, they may not have been here for those previous ones. If you are interested, I remember some good points made by many people, some very insightful.
As someone very wise said upthread, we all come from different cultures and backgrounds and have varying ways of discussing differing opinions. My family is passionate and loud; my kids jump all over each other's opinions in the most hyperbolic of manners. My sister, whose children never speak in ways that might "hurt anyone's feelings," sometimes sits back and listens with shock and awe to their vociferous discussions.
My kids have to speak up and make very loud and strong remarks to even register with each other. However, they would never speak so "strongly" to my sister's kids because they know they are different sorts of communicators and that they are more sensitive to nuances and even to tone. When we are all together around the table, my kids change their delivery moment to moment depending on who they are addressing.
Here, we can't see each other's faces and/or body language, or hear each other's tone, and we often dont know each other's back stories, so we can't adapt our communication style, and even our message, to fit each listener as we do so often in real life.
Sometimes we can inadvertently blunder into each other's sensitivities. As Gelly and Stardust said, respect is the key, and there is plenty of it here on Atop. It is why I love this community and the many different people that are a part of it.
Good times ahead! We have waited a long time to hear Adam sing something new and speak new words... So excited we get to enjoy experiencing them together!

Lynne to the rescue.
I couldn't beat your AMAZING posts even if my native language was English. VERY few people could. You're one of the reasons I love this forum. You're TOO good for words. Just THANK YOU.
