I listened to other versions of Mad About the Boy, including Noel Coward's, and the song seemed too old-fashioned so I was not sure where Adam would take it.
Should have known that I didn't need to be nervous. The arrangement is excellent and Adam, well Adam takes it to a level that is modern, smooth, and sexy. I love the air of bewildered but sophisticated self-awareness.

I love this song so much. I still can't purchase on Amazon tho but I hope that will change. I wonder if Adam could qualify for a Grammy nomination in the Jazz category? A girl can dream, lol. If Carrie Underwood and Tori Kelly could win Billboard and Grammy's in the Gospel categories (less competition) I don't see why Adam can't go for something different. Or is it pop only or nothing for Adam as usual?

When I heard the older versions earlier this week, I really didn’t care for it, didn’t think it would suit Adam. Wow - was I wrong! He did a great job with it, making it sexy and sultry.

YES, and since it’s World Series season, Adam hit it out of the park. I love the scratchiness he adds to his voice at times. He has stated in interviews, he wished his voice had a natural rasp. Is that “breathy” sound with the strings a hint of masturbation as he is watching the boy on the screen? I always love his voice with an orchestra behind it.
I got a Sam Smith song called Diamonds after listening to Adam, and that particular song has similar treatment to “Mad about the Boy” to my ears. I never listen to Sam Smith, and I didn’t know he sang anything but pop. I don’t know if iTunes chose that song to pop up because Sam is also gay, or because of the similar song style. I found it interesting. For all of us Boomers, I thought of Mel Torme as I was listening to Adam. Maybe because the song is of that time period? Smooth jazz to my ears with a modern production, not a comparison of voices, as Adam’s voice is so distinctive and original.

This song exceeded all my expectations! And believe me, my expectations were high! His version made the song sound like it could have been written yesterday. So modern and sultry with TONS of sexual tension. No holding back. I think Noel Coward would have loved to hear this song sung by a man. Can't wait to see the doc.
I hope this song gets tons of hits and views and sales. I'd like to see the US on that iTunes list, but the US is sometimes a bit asleep at the wheel. In the meantime, I will keep listening to it as much as I can. Adam is the gift that keeps on giving.
