UM! From our conversation a few days ago, I guess many different type of acts (even with much spectacle) are struggling somewhat to fill venues. Review: Carrie Underwood rocks Target Center but insists that she's still country"In case you don't know it, we're at a country music concert," Carrie Underwood, the uncrowned queen of modern country, declared a half-hour into her performance Tuesday night at Target Center. Gosh, darn, could have fooled me. After power rockers and power ballads, it felt like over-shrill. Like the "American Idol"-turned-Nashville sweetheart had transformed into a screaming rock 'n' roll vixen auditioning for a Guns N' Roses tribute band. Those two new numbers are from this year's "Denim & Rhinestones" album, which mostly suggests that Underwood now yearns to be Shania Twain, not Axl Rose. Maybe that explains why the album hasn't been her usual bestseller and why Target Center's upper level was half-full on a school night.About a third of Tuesday's show was devoted to material from the new album. And Underwood's staging reflected the Denim & Rhinestones Tour theme, with diamond shapes on the stage and runway as well as a succession of outfits dripping in rhinestones. The 110-minute presentation allowed the country superstar to prove that she's more than a volcanic vocalist, sparkly fashionista and spectacle-loving performer. The vocal gymnast is apparently an aspiring gymnast of another sort. She rode on a swing over the crowd to a satellite stage (during "Ghost Story") and returned later (during "Crazy Angels") via a globe-like cage, straddling the frame like an aerial acrobat. Not to worry. Underwood would not be mistaken for the derring-do of Pink, pop's ultimate aerial daredevil who does somersaults over the crowd while singing. www.startribune.com/review-carrie-underwood-rocks-target-center-but-insists-that-shes-still-country/600219053/

And funnily enough, she showed up onstage with G’n’R in London(?) over the summer!

So, even those supposed A-listers are having trouble filling venues Sign of the times. One thinh I would never say about Adam is that his voice is shrill. Even his highest notes have a richness and depth to them, not to mention the total vocal control. Overall, it looks like the Witch Hunt is going well, and his fans are loving it.

Haha, “over-shrill.” That’s what I think of her voice. And funnily enough, she showed up onstage with G’n’R in London(?) over the summer! Yep she has been trying (unconvincingly, imo) to push the rock chick act for a few years now. She even named Queen as one of her influences in one interview. I guess now that she is getting older, and country is not pushing her to the top of everything she does now and country Grammy's are going to others, she is branching out. Smart to not try to compete in the pop arena as it is impossible to get past Taylor, Adele, Harry, Bieber, Billie and the new pop and rap divas. But Carrie has received a Grammy win lately for Best Gospel Album so if you can't win in one go to another, lol. Would not be shocked if she tried to put out a rock album. It has worked to get Demi and Miley #1 rock and alt albums when pop started to ignore them, so nothing would surprise me. TBH, I don't really blame them for getting the message and branching out, instead of just getting shut out and overlooked in favor of the rappers and younger acts.

lurleene, that's exactly what I hope Adam can. Get his music into other genres that give him fighting at those awards. Like them or not, Grammys and AMAs, etc, DO matter. They give an artist lots of cred and prestige. The best singers don't always win them, but so what? That's the way it goes. It's astounding that Adam has not won one Grammy since Idol. Just one nom. Yet others go home with armloads of those things. He's kind of an anomaly. Gets a lot of praise for his voice, but it sure would be nice to get a Grammy or two.

Yep and teams/artists are getting smart and working the system to get their artists in less competitive categories. Nicki Minaj had a meltdown when the Grammy's moved her latest out of rap (her submission) and entered it in the pop category. She is mad and came right out and admitted that she has a better chance of winning her first Grammy in rap instead of trying to compete with Adele, Taylor and Harry in the super competitive pop arena. She is correct, lol. And now Beyonce it trying to get her latest entered in the dance music category but the Grammy's so far has said no. But she tends to get what she wants so we shall see. When you have these high profile acts, who are all over the radio, trying to get into less competitive races to up their chances, no surprise that some like Miley and Demi are trying to do the same by getting into rock and alt. Even Gaga has won a few Grammy's in the less competitive traditional pop with Tony Bennett. I could see Mad About the Boy (when eligible) entered into Traditional pop instead of pop like Darren Criss is trying to do but won't bet on it. HA.

Here is today's news thread. Note: I apologize for not being around, I am just buried in work right now and do not have any free time. My over-commitment will be over in about five or six weeks and I will return to doing opening posts. Q3 I guess that means you are not seeing any of the Witch Hunt shows? I hope you have a bit of time to enjoy the videos that have been posted. Adam sounds great!
