I mentioned fairly recently in a post that …years ago Adam got out of his contract with whatever recording/management group American Idol had set him up with. Supposedly he had this “out” or better written contract. But, leaving that contract cost him all rights to his first two albums. He toasted the release news with expensive champagne and pics of Sauli/friends. But he was not noticeably in the pics. Atnleast he could get out! I remember in the thread folks commenting that he must have been smarter with lawyers writing his contract than many other AI contestants.
I was commenting in my post I do stream the old music….helps keep Adam’s music “relevant” but I play the newer two albums and one off songs as those are the ones Adam, for sure, would get royalties for. Hard to know if listed as a “writer” on the first two albums songs if he would get royalties…certainly not as the singer. But writers get better royalties anyway.
At the time he got out of that contract…there was much happiness for him…as for some like Philip Phillips whose woes and legal fights to get put of his contract went on for years. He was making almost nothing from touring or his music and was forced to do “one off” performances and not benefit financially. I do not remember exactly…but enough to know Phillip persisted for years to get out of the contract.
Adam had to be thankful that he bit the bullet/mourned the loss of past work, royalties etc, but could forge ahead with new management etc.
I pulled this from Wiki:
In July 2013, it was reported that Lambert had left his record label of five years, RCA Records, due to "creative differences"; the label was allegedly pushing him to record an album composed of cover songs from the 1980s.[5][6] The day after his announcement, Lambert was contacted by Warner Bros. Records.[7] A deal with the label was confirmed by Billboard in January 2015, along with news that his upcoming album would be executively produced by Max Martin and Shellback and was scheduled for release in the summer of 2015.[8] Songwriting for the album began in early 2014, with recording taking place between 2014 and 2015 in the producers' native Sweden.[7]
I do not remember process of moving on after the contract change, as being this seamless. Adam had worked this version of OH and took it to Max Martin, who liked it. That was a huge thing for Adam and was when I remember things finally starting moving for Adam with the management team. Note he left in 2013, OH was released on his Birthday 2015 with Warner Bros. Big gap of time.
