Ok. I'm a bit confused. Adam says the original artist "gets the "money." But he makes money on his versions, too, right? And if course on the album. ??? Interesting comments to him on that comment feed. Like he should do his own music. Exciting to hear him reply that he does he have new solo music coming out! This covers album is really exposing him to a lot of new listeners.

I, too, am confused. I know the original "artist" gets something. I don't know if it is the singer or the writer or both, but then how does the cover artist get paid? They have to get something, or why do covers.
Can't wait for his new music. I so love Velvet.

Ya, the payment formula is not clear at all. as far as his own music we know the musical will come out as a record as well, so I think this is what he meant.

My understanding is whenever an artist records a song they have not written, the composer gets a royalty, a small percentage of the sales. The recording artist gets a majority of the sales. I think an artist is also supposed to pay a fee when performing songs written by someone else, but I don't know how frequently that is enforced.

Thank you, Cassie, please clarify, by the artist do you mean the original artist? So, for ex. Bonnie Tyler would get the money, or would Adam get the money for the cover, or both? I am just curious because it is confusing.

Whatever the money situation is with a cover song, I think Adam is getting tons of valuable exposure with this covers album. And the sales proceeds must bring him some money somehow. Still confused a bit. Looks like Adam has no intention of struggling to be the body size he used to be. I think he looks great as he is. But I don't think he intends to be totally lackadaisical about it either. The vast majority of those comments are positive.
Looking forward to the US promo events!

I am just curious because it is confusing. That article covered a lot of ground and was somewhat confusing, but it looked to me that it’s the original writer who gets royalties, and Bonnie Tyler didn’t write the song. It also says that the lyrics, melody, or intent of the song can’t be substantially changed. Adam talked about “flipping” the songs around to make them new, but so far they haven’t strayed a lot from the originals. Makes me wonder about the Gary Jules version of Mad World, which is pretty much how Adam later did it, compared with the original Tears for Fears version written by Roland Orzabal. Or Adam’s version of Cher’s Believe. The words and melodies weren’t changed, but the mood certainly was!
