THREADS platform is not available in EU due to data sharing laws in place there. Idk about other locales, Available in the US for sure. ETA: I just downloaded Threads and it connected to my Instagram profile. I did not have to provide any additional info (used SKIP). It was rather easy. My IG and Twitter follow lists are somewhat different but I really want to get off Twitter so this will have to do for now. Hope the issues with EU laws will get resolved soon. ETA2: turns out there is no feature to have a feed from just the accounts you follow. That’s a major deficiency for now. You get a totally random feed , I guess based on the “algorithm”. While I think Musk is a douche, and is (maybe deliberately) ruining twitter, it was nice to have everybody on one platform. What's the use of a dozen different "twitter" rivals, and everybody scattering to their own platform? So if you follow hundreds of different people/orgs, you need to join up with all of their different platforms?
That seems very cumbersome, and time consuming.

This seems like the best alternative to Twitter so far, even if Zuckerberg/Meta also have their own issues… It’s easy to join if you’re already on IG, for one thing, and you can automatically follow the same people you follow on IG (but not Twitter). I bet they’ll come up with a way to see only (or mostly) people you follow. Months ago I signed up on Mastodon, and I realize I haven’t looked at it in a long time, partly because many people I follow didn’t join. It’s too bad that Europe can’t join, and I hope they find some way to make that possible. And Les that mean if we’re traveling in Europe the app won’t work there? Nice to see that Adam has joined. |
