Dark Adam is definitely crushing a pomegranate, but it looks very much like a heart and that's on purpose, I'm quite sure. If they'd wanted an actual heart in the vid, Ray Kay could have purchased a fake heart at the local prop shop for a few bucks, but I think they wanted people to be shocked for a moment, thinking that Dark Adam was crushing a heart in his hands. And then we zoom in and it's clearly a fruit. The symbolism of the pomegranate is mainly tied to Greek mythology: The myth of Persephone, the goddess of the Underworld, also prominently features the pomegranate. In one version of Greek mythology, Persephone was kidnapped by Hades and taken off to live in the underworld as his wife. Her mother, Demeter (goddess of the Harvest), went into mourning for her lost daughter and thus all green things ceased to grow. Zeus, the highest ranking of the Greek gods, could not allow the Earth to die, so he commanded Hades to return Persephone. It was the rule of the Fates that anyone who consumed food or drink in the Underworld was doomed to spend eternity there. Persephone had no food, but Hades tricked her into eating six pomegranate seeds while she was still his prisoner and so, because of this, she was condemned to spend six months in the Underworld every year. During these six months, when Persephone is sitting on the throne of the Underworld next to her husband Hades, her mother Demeter mourns and no longer gives fertility to the earth. This became an ancient Greek explanation for the seasons. Also the idea of balance-- finding a way to live in both worlds. Other mythologies use the pomegranate, and some say that the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden was not an apple, but a pomegranate. This is my long-winded way of saying that the pomegranate was chosen very consciously for the video.  THIS!!!!!!! I refuse to believe anything else than this!!!! Anyone who is saying something else , I won't listen!!  Unless Adam address this in a different way I BELIEVE THIS! And I will ask him on twitter parties a million times about this part until I get an answer from him  LOL, no argument here. I absolutely positively believe it to be true that the pomegranate was VERY consciously chosen for all the resonances NoAngel posted, whether it was researched or chosen in a sudden burst of brainstorming inspiration. It would be fun to know exactly how that choice as well as others actually came about. WTF am I still doing up and hanging around here? It's almost 4 am! |

I remember that yesterday I was reading some article about QUEEN & Adam collaboration and there was that word used. I also had to browse the meaning, though... Yes, I'm not looking it up but Adam used the word in an *nontraditional* way - i think he said fronting queen (or the offer) was an honor and he wouldn't shirk that. (One doesn't really shirk honor but I thought the -- " I wouldn't shirk the responsibility (or duty) of fulfilling that honor" was implied.) Maybe someone said something to him about it. He can be sensitive and he's prob wearing a sweater right now. Neil helped out w/ a tweet and he's trying to win a sofa via Facebook or something. It's all very Lambertian. I thought that was implied too.. lol at your sweater comment. ;D |

It could be as simple as it was a squeezable fruit with the nice red juicy color when squeezed that they wanted.. or not. That would be a great question to add to Questions for Adam list. Shirk is not a word I associate with Adam! ETA: that final shot in the video (Tatum's avi) -- he still looks a bit tormented, no? Or at least very intense and not content. Oh well, it's too late tonight for me to try to ascribe meaning to that. Leaving the computer now... |
