b Review: With Adam Lambert, Queen proves they still are the champions of bombastic rockThe veteran British band returned to St. Paul for a two-night stand that put guitarist Sir Brian May in the spotlight. Did we just open a time capsule? Last week, the Rolling Stones dropped a new album. Next week, the Beatles will release their final single. This weekend, Queen, the biggest British rock band to emerge in the 1970s, is playing two nights to capacity crowds at Xcel Energy Center. Hail Brittania! Long live Queen! Oops, it's King Charles III now. I do know that it took a younger American vocalist, "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, to save Queen. And it took a pair of films — 1992's "Wayne's World" and 2018's biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" — to ensure that Queen has an enduring afterlife following the 1991 death of revered lead singer Freddie Mercury. With Lambert as frontman for a decade now and counting, Queen + Adam Lambert, as they are billed, put on a predictably bombastic, mostly fantastic and delightfully nostalgic show Friday night at Xcel Energy Center. The curved video screens over and behind the stage, the flickering laser lights and other special effects were a feast for the eyes. So were Lambert's gloriously garish outfits — from a silver breast plate with cape all the way to his pure white with gold bejeweled toreador jacket, each more sparkly than the last and all with Elton John-worthy platform boots. While there was an abundance of flash and glam, the real spectacle of Queen's 130-minute concert was the multi-layered, meticulously orchestrated music, arguably the most ornate, theatrical and rangy in rock. Prog, metal, pop, rock, balladry, opera, choral singing, all mixed together into a blend that has arguably improved over time for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, who were more loved in Europe than in the States — that is until "Wayne's World" established Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as a smash sing-along 17 years after its initial release. To be sure, Mercury, who died of AIDS at age 45, is missed. There is no replacement. Lambert, 41, brings a credible voice, worthy panache and, most importantly, the right attitude. On Friday, he was respectful to the legacy, deferential to the two Queen original members, and humble to a fault. He regularly ceded the spotlight to guitarist Brian May, clearly the favorite of the 14,000 fans and, despite Lambert's shimmering wardrobe, he didn't really demand the attention with his moves, as he does with his own shows.
On Friday, Lambert seemed more comfortable on the rockers than he did in St. Paul in 2019, the first year of Q + AL's current Rhapsody Tour. Of course, he owned the big ballads with his freakishly rangy voice and his Mercury-rising high notes. He showed out a few times, notably on the Broadway-like showstopper "Don't Stop Me Now" and camping it up on a gleaming motorcycle for "Bicycle Race." But I think he brings more than a credible voice to the band. HA. And I think his choice of clunky shoes slow his movements down somewhat (he loves the way they look even if they slow down his rock moves a bit). But he is moving much better since he lost the weight. And they are putting on a fantastic show. Excited to hear more about Adam's new management. His team did a good job of getting him exposure for High Drama but not sure who they were. But he was everywhere.

That was super interesting to listen to...actually thought this was more interesting than him trying to answer the same old tired fan questions. More of a stream of consciousness, less awkward. Yes, i agree. I don’t see this part on the one that was posted, but it does say “full” on the post. My instagram also kept blacking out. I thought that was where is was freezing, but I also got the freeze, so I guess not. I was able to hear him, but the screen went black. I wonder what else I missed🤔

She was with him at the CD signings. I think this review doesn't show enough appreciation for Adam.

Thanks quackn. I wondered if Shosh was still in charge then.
I agree the review did not give Adam enough appreciation. Of course he can't replace Freddie, lol and maybe Brian could get all those people in the arena on his own. Oh well. Yes I know they love Brian and Roger, as they should, but make no mistake it is Adam fronting the band that is a major part of their success today. Fans are loving him too. Not sure why it is so hard for some to acknowledge that and his talent instead of the reviews going on and on about his change of outfits or makeup while concert goers are talking about his vocals and showmanship.

Shosh was last seen with Adam on the promo trip in New Zealand. I think since March (?) she’s no longer in charge. She had suddenly stopped posting about Adam on Twitter/X and had no longer answered fan questions.
Until then I had wondered, why Adam had 2 different managements. Shosh had been responsible for anything Adam did outside of the USA, the other management for his US promo ect. Maybe Adam has now 1 management? It would make sense, at least to me.

I was confused when they announced someone else would take the US and Shosh would keep international. Then it was no more Shosh. But with Adam saying new management for a few months, it sounds like new management altogether? I guess we will find out soon enough.

He is too funny, I am so sorry I missed part of this. Firstly, he DID NOT look yellow on my screen. Secondly, I wish he would stop pointing out minor differences that he sees as possible flaws like his hairline and grey in his beard. Makes me crazy............he's beautiful.........

broadwayWORLD Review: QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT THE RHAPSODY TOUR at Xcel Energy CenterAfter a four-year hiatus, the legendary trio of Sir Brian May, Roger Taylor, and their extraordinary frontman, Adam Lambert, are bringing their highly acclaimed production back to where it all began, now expanded and better than ever.
The Queen + Adam Lambert Rhapsody Tour boasts a 150-minute career-spanning set list, celebrating the band's extraordinary back catalog. It includes iconic anthems such as "We Will Rock You," "Don't Stop Me Now," "Radio Ga Ga," and "Somebody To Love," alongside classic deep cuts and vintage fan favorites. The show features a dazzling state-of-the-art stage design, incredible special effects, and mesmerizing set pieces, leaving critics and fans around the world in awe.
Having extensively toured in recent years, the Rhapsody show continues to evolve while remaining, at its core, a tribute to Freddie Mercury's majestic legacy. It serves as a testament to Brian and Roger's enduring musical prowess and a magnificent showcase for Adam's vocal talents and electrifying stage presence. This all culminates in a glorious, full-blooded celebration of one of the greatest songbooks in rock history.

Much better to focus on this type of review than the lukewarm "I'm paid to find something wrong" reviews. Continuing from above.. --------------------------------- This concert was truly exceptional! The stage setup featured screens, mesmerizing lights, and breathtaking special effects, creating a remarkable experience. It was a particularly memorable occasion for fans of both Queen and Adam Lambert, as they had the chance to witness two legends – Brian May and Roger Taylor from the original Queen – performing alongside the outstanding vocals of Adam Lambert. Adam Lambert's numerous outfit changes added a fashionable and sparkly dimension to the show, and he even rocked platform shoes while delivering all the classic Queen hits with incredible power and passion. Throughout the concert, there were poignant moments where the band paid tribute to the iconic Freddie Mercury. Clips of him performing were displayed on the screen, eliciting an emotional response from the crowd. A particularly moving highlight was when Brian May played a beautiful song on his guitar, and on the screen, a clip of Freddie singing while playing alongside him gave the impression that they were sharing the stage together. It was a genuinely special moment.

Adam has a "credible" voice? And the Grand Canyon has an interesting river bed.

I think people, especially some celebrities, point out "flaws" to get ahead of the trolls who are going to point them out anyway. And from some of his previous comments, it sounds like he's definitely conscious of the passing of time, ie his age. Not that he's old, but it's hard to ignore the way that your body changes over time, from weight to wrinkles to the inevitable gray in your hair/beard to the fact, as he said, that he doesn't drink as much anymore because it's harder for him to bounce back from (my interpretation lol).
I find myself doing the same thing with my family sometimes, because my mom has a knack for reminding me that I've gained weight, or that I'm getting "up there" lol...she tries to be tactful, but it doesn't always work, bless her.
ETA: re some of the reviews, it really does sound like some of these reviewers try really, really hard to find negatives...do they get paid more for critical reviews lol?
