But the thing is he DOES want to be the big fish. He has been alluding to it in interviews and said it straight out in the Swedish one about how competitive it is and he is constantly competing and strategizing to compete on the highest levels of pop music. This includes picking the biggest producers, songwriters, etc. These are the AAA-list hit makers and he wants to be on that list. This was not accidental. It's not just us wanting it for him. He obviously wants it for himself and he's working his ass off to make it happen. Exactly! I think this is something people miss when saying that Adam will be "just fine" because he is making the album he wants to make...etc., etc. That is NICE, but Adam wants more than that. He wants to have Pop hits, he wants to be able to have a bigger and better tour, and he wants to have concerts in bigger venues. Adam wants to be invited to sing at awards shows, the big New Years Eve show and headline the top JBBs, and the Grammys. Adam is a smart business man. He knows if he wants to keep getting the best writers, producers and video producers- he has to have a successful era this time around. It is a fact of the music business- the rich get richer. Sure, many of us would be happy with our new little Adam album and Adam singing in venues with 500 people or less, but Adam would not be happy with that. He isn't some Indie artist who wants to sing at glorified bars. Adam wants to move to the next level, so that is what I want for him. YES.YES.YES!!!

I'm loving these pictures and tweets! What better way to remind a lot of people not just that he has a new album coming out, but that he's a Grammy-nominated artist with an album coming out! And, because it cannot be said enough, he is positively drool-worthy in those pictures!

It's funny what a difference one's perspective makes. ============================================== But in my world, where Adam also ( >:() receives eye-rolls, he's facing the opposite problem, from an equally (well, maybe not equally but similarly) ignorant position. The people I know don't think Adam is too out there--they think he is too mainstream. They think he is a commercial product (thank you, AI) who sings manufactured, boring, simplistic pop. His sexuality, to the extent that people in my circle think of it at all, is if anything thought of as a redeeming feature--something that makes him slightly more interesting. And they are barely aware of his FYE-era camp and flamboyance (more on that in a minute). ============================================== BUT: IMO one of the reasons (and I acknowledge there are powerful additional reasons) that Adam has had a difficult time on the radio is that he hasn't released a TRULY GREAT POP SINGLE yet. And when I think of what my friends and family, say, who don't follow Adam closely at all, have been exposed to--his singles on the radio and on late-night talk show performances and other performances like AI--then I understand much better the ways in which they dismiss him. They would have loved the "flamboyance" of GNT so much more SO yes. I was disappointed by BTIKM (even though it sounds beautiful and I flove the video). I was disappointed with the claude kelly demo that leaked months ago, and I was disappointed with the slicker production of the single. It did sound a little song-factory to me. To be clear, I thought it had potential for radio success, and I still do, but I was disappointed, and I certainly didn't think it was the single to make people sit up and take notice of the new Adam Era. It is reminiscient of WWFM, and WWFM had significant success, but I have already heard enough of and about this new album to confidently expect something far more exciting, far greater than that, from it. So I'm not worried. I'm not worried at all. BTIKM may still take off (as people have pointed out, there are far worse songs ruling the airwaves, and radio promo is just kicking in next week). But speaking only for myself, I'm more excited for the NEXT single, and for the Album, and I share msn.uk's conviction that this is the beginning of a brave and massively successful new world for Adam. Midwifespal, love your post, especially the parts above. You've expressed some things that I've been unable to say so articulately. What you describe of your friends' and family's reaction to Adam is pretty much exactly what I've experienced with the people in my life. For the most part, they think Adam is TOO mainstream and commercial! There are a couple of people who realize that he is more interesting than that, but they are in the 'he's talented but not my thing' camp. :( I agree with all you've said about BTIKM, and the album as a whole. I also was disappointed with BTIKM, but I agree that the other material on Trespassing sounds exciting, and like you, I am not worried. I have a lot of confidence in Adam's success with this era. As far as Kris, I admit that I was, as Lifetraveler said earlier, having a tough time letting go of a sense of competition, partly due to having experienced the fanwar situation on MJs (a site I had no experience with prior to discovering Adam). I was looking forward to the satisfaction of being proven 'right'. But now I'm over it. For the most part, I feel bored by MJs. Perspectives and experiences vary, legitimately. I've always liked Kris, in a very neutral sort of way, lol. I find him *pleasant*. And I recognize at this point how ridiculous it is to compare him - or his success or lack thereof - with Adam. Adam at one point, when asked about Kris, said "We're both figuring out what works for us" -- as usual, he was exactly right, as well as tactful, in his evaluation. People are going to think what they think, and say what they say. It doesn't matter. (although....the number of times Adam has been referred to recently as the *winner*of AI is pretty amusing...)

Aww sweet Adam, really trying to push the album in the interview (he went to the album like 3 times while answering a different question)... making a point to get people excited that there are some dance tracks on there... Interesting that he would do that.
I really think BTIKM kind of confused the hell out of CHR PDs, in terms of the sound of this era. I understand they were trying to step in the footsteps of WWFM, and tbh not sure a more dancey track would have fared better, but...
*sigh* I should seriously step away from the computer.
