I think the connection is that Adam is now the frontman for Queen, and Freddie used to be.. even though it's a cartoon Freddie character. Whatever the reason for him getting asked to perform, it's great that Adam is able to sing all genres of music and reach a different audience. I saw that the comedian Sarah Silverman who used to be on Saturday Night Live commented "Amazing" on his IG post of the performance, and started following him on IG. Yes, I love that he was asked to perform. But, I just wish Freddie Mercury could be left out of Adam's career. When he is fronting Queen, of course, Freddie's ghost will be there. But with everything else, I just wish people could give Adam his well deserved kudos without mentioning Freddie. I, personally, am so tired of it after all of these years. But, that's me. I think people were just trying to make sense of Adam performing the song since he has nothing to do with the show Big Mouth that the song is from, and no other connection to the show or song except for Freddie being the cartoon character in the show who sang the song. Also in the TikTok of the performance posted by Nick Kroll, who helped create the show Big Mouth, one of his hashtags is #freddiemercury. |

Quackn, if you look back at the 5-3 and 5-4 threads, it was explained that the song that Adam sang is apparently from Season 1 of the Big Mouth show, which features a 7th grader (john mulaney) questioning his sexuality and looks for help from the ghosts of dead queer icons, including Freddie Mercury (per tweet from kara_rose)
So the scene and the song were there before Adam, including the cartoon of Freddie.
I guess they could have asked Marc Martel to perform at the Greek, but it was rather fitting and nice that they asked Adam. And no, in this case, the performance wouldn't work without Freddie.
I've never watched this show, so I was confused what the whole thing was about too.

It's logical that Adam was asked to do this gig due to his being Queen's frontman and therefore always tied to Freddie in some way. It's just a fact. I am SO happy Adam got to do this, and he was spectacular. It has attracted a lot of attention and that's the best payoff. It showed off Adam vocal skills and also his comic skill. John M. was also really good. He's a funny guy.

I had never seen this show and it seemed perfectly logical to me that Adam would be in it, without the Freddie context, theatre background, magnificent voice, gay icon and great comic timing. I don't believe the "Freddie" cartoon had anything to do with the present performance. It just seemed to me (and maybe I am wrong) that "too theatrical" posted this afterwards. In that case, it did work without Freddie. I am a great Queen fan (with Freddie) I am also a great Adam fan (solo as well as with Queen). I would like to not have Freddie's shadow lurking so often, it's not necessary. Again, just me. Everyone has their own opinion, which I totally respect. I see this posted in the wrong place. I was answering SVCA, don't know how to move it. |

The Freddie cartoon had everything to do with Adam's performance, the way I understand it. the Freddie cartoon is part of the story being told, the ghost of Freddie being one of the dead icons giving advice or whatever to the 7th grader, performed by John Mulaney.
Adam is voicing the ghost of Freddie.
I'm not sure how to explain it any better.

I'm going to have to check out this Big Mouth program...never heard of it, although I'm not really big on the comedy stuff (except for the old Carol Burnett show, loved that one). |

I don't get this. What does this cartoon with Freddie have to do with Adam singing. Evidentially, from the caption, it is some guy that sounds like Freddie. Is this correct? Can no one see Adam without adding something with Freddie?  It is probably just speculation as to why Adam was asked to perform. It could be related to Freddie or they could have just wanted a talented and high profile gay artist. Everyone knows who Adam is so perfect choice. The good thing is, he was asked and he was fantastic so they got who they wanted. But there have been times when Freddie was given credit for Adam like in TSMGO documentary and Lyndsey Parker said Adam got the first #1 album by a gay artist because of Freddie, lol. Adam got that #1 before he became the Queen frontman and it was in the US not the UK (where Freddie was more popular) so hard to make it about Freddie. And there were many successful gay artists that paved the way and opened doors for other gay artists like Adam. But the credit for Adam's #1 US album goes to Adam. But no matter why Adam was asked to perform at this event it was good for them and for him. |
