I don't generally listen to rap but I watched a few female rap videos yesterday. I wanted to see what a commentator was talking about regarding two artists. Adam's lyrics for his new songs are absolutely tame in comparison. HA. But those ladies do get a lot of radio play and Grammy nominations/wins but I imagine that some of the lyrics are censored before they are played on radio. And they have the advantage of being half naked and bending over and shaking some big butts in their videos and performances. And they act out and back up those lyrics. Not much musical talent but that is beside the point, it sells, lol. And radio or award shows are not going to shut them out. I thank the universe that we will not see Adam half naked and twerking in a video. HA. I don't think what works for the ladies would work for a man (gay or straight) anyway. Even LNX and Sam (dressed like women, teenagers, cheerleaders or just trying to be shocking) seem to have sorta worn out their welcome as far as being commercial. But Adam is playing to a small niche with this EP and I don't think he expected it to be commercial. But I'm glad the new music is working for him for Pride and for his community and makes him happy. And I'm thrilled he is receiving such positive press. Love his magazine cover and the sexy photos.

lurleene, so glad that you listened to a few female rappers so that I don't have to. LOL I do realize that their lyrics are very graphic, more so than Adam's, and that their dance moves are more sexual than his. The standards of acceptance vary from artist to artist. And the ability to get radio play and win Grammys is a result of a record label's success in aggressively pushing a song, the whims of program directors on radio stations, and a hell of a lot of luck. Little rhyme or reason to it. Hits become hits for a variety of reasons. Adam often gets praise for his own music from major publications like Rolling Stone and other big sources. And of course he always gets accolades for his voice. Always a puzzle about how this doesn't often result in radio pla for him. In the meantime, he creates music that he loves. Often it's for his broad fanbase and we love it. Afters is focused on his community, but it sure is getting good reactions from all kinds of listeners. So any fears we had are pretty much unfounded. Even if some fans aren't crazy about the songs, it's pretty clear that the lots of fans love them, me included!

But it is not the kind of music I like, tho I did like LMD so I gave them a listen. And there have been fans who did not care for some of his previous songs and they have made their preferences known. But he generally has a variety for different tastes and something for everyone. However, I always want Adam to do well and I think this was something he needed to do for himself and his crew. And it is less about the lyrics and more about not being music that interests me. In fact, those lady rappers were so raunchy and explicit that they made me laugh. Was not offended (like the commentator) but I couldn't take them seriously, lol. And I only watched because that person called them lurid and tasteless so I was curious. There is a difference in being sexy and being overly raunchy with TMI. But they went for it and they seemed to be clones of one another. Don't think they will be invited to sing at the Oscars or for Princess Kate. HA.

I like the new music and I hope he continues to have more success with it.

Yep, bottom line is that the music on Afters gives him a nice boost and some media attention, which it has. Then I'll be ready for some new music that has a broader appeal. I'm sure Adam is aware of all this. His long-time fans need music that speaks to them, too. I think some fans were afraid that the EP would really hurt him. Apparently not!
