Just my opinion of course, but I think these days the words "icon" and "iconic" are thrown around way too much. They've sort of lost their meaning. Just because "insert latest popular celebrity here" is making a splash doesn't make them iconic.

I love that rock keeps recognizing Adam. I really think his music would have a better chance of making a splash in rock more than it ever could in pop at this stage of his career. I know the gay community loves the dance music but they have never rewarded him for his efforts. WWFM was his biggest hit in the US and it was pop-rock from a mostly glam-rock inspired album, which was also his most successful album. Of course, without a label and at his age it would be harder. But he certainly would have a much better chance of some kind of radio play than he would with Pop or dance music. And many others, as they got older, have switched genres. And I can't see that pop or pop/dance is going to work outside of Pride and a few gay clubs in Weho. But I think these songs and this is EP are very important to him and achieved what he wanted. But after years of little to no radio play in pop, Daughtry left RCA and gave up on chasing pop radio, as his label demanded. And after leaving, he has charted several songs or rock and even had a recent #1 hit and he is older than Adam. And I know Adam loves dance music and clubbing but he has sometime hinted at rock music (the rock musical album) and he said he recognized that he was a rockstar. And being the frontman for Queen could work to his benefit. But he has such a diverse career that radio is not his only avenue to success. Adam is a gay icon. But such a great artist too and his fans love him. And we don't demand that he show or tell us how gay he is at every turn. He is who he is and that is enough. And thankfully, he is secure in that knowledge and has not gone the way of LNX and Sam. Their antics seemed to have worked against them and made them more caricatures than icons who opened doors and looked for ways to represent and help their community.

I agree that the word "icon" is used very loosely and way too often. But I think Adam shows a focus and dedication that is lacking in some others. He will always be gay and will always have that connection and a desire to be an advocate. Some artists make a career out of that alone. Look at Bono. For years, he has been best known for his work as an advocate for human rights of all kinds. Some artists make those efforts an integral part of their career, not just an add-on. I want Adam to be able to sing and perform for the rest of his life. He loves it. But he can do all those other things, too. There's plenty of room. He's got a big heart and a great personality. Should pay off for him in the long haul, I hope.

I think that Adam’s priorities right now are personal fulfillment, liberation, and connecting with the queer community. His EP will be released in July, after Pride month, so I can’t imagine that he’ll change his course/musical direction soon.
I have gathered from recent as well as past interviews that rock music isn’t his passion, though at times he must have thought that it could be a promising venue for him, especially given his success with QAL. Not sure what happened to his rock inspired musical, I honestly can’t see it happening in the foreseeable future. As of now, I just hope for Adam to be able to keep diversifying in the entertainment field and beyond (fashion, make-up etc).
I don’t dislike the recent tracks, especially when it comes to the sound/beat. Lube sounds pretty vanilla to me actuallly, as I can’t really understand the lyrics, but I would not jump up and dance to these songs as they are clearly not meant for me.

I agree that Adam is an "icon." The first out gay artist to get a #1 album on the BB charts was huge. And that coming off of all the attacks and roadblocks he endured at the beginning of his career. He certainly had a much harder time than those who came behind him. But even with those challenges, he came out of it with a high profile career and became a multi-millionaire, even before he joined Queen. Could he have achieve more hits if those roadblocks had not been there and he received more support from major labels and radio? Yes. And many of the LGBT artists had major hits before they came out. Hard to say if they would have achieved them if it had been known when they first came on the scene. So to me, Adam has earned that status of the gay icon.
As far as Adam's music goes, none of us are claiming that WE know what music Adam will do later. He has been known to change his mind and direction. And right now, he is making the music he likes for himself and his community. It is just a preference for rock and emotional ballads (showcasing his vocals) that some of us would like to see from him so we talk about it. It may or may not happen again. Imo, not much different than those who like to see him do pop, electronic and dance music. Those who like him with the heavy makeup and those of us who prefer to see that gorgeous face with a little less. Those who look forward to the makeup tutorials and those who think enough already, lol. Those who are interested in his friends/acquaintances dressed in drag at the clubs or house parties and those who scroll for lack of interest. Some of us wanted him to lose the extra weight (he did not look healthy, imo) and others thought he was too old at 40 to make a change and get in shape. At first, he complained about "fat shaming" but he took care of the weight when he really wanted to. And he looks healthy, great, sexy and back to wonderful fashion. At the end of the day, it is all just conversation. We do not carry much weight or have a say, lol. Adam will do what he wants when he wants with his music, makeup, friends and performances. And we will complain, question or not but will continue to support him and hope he succeeds and is happy with his choices. HA.
