OT: I was watching an artist, Phoebe Bridgers, being interviewed on one of the cable news shows. She caught my attention when she said she was more indie folk but her manager encouraged her to go more rock. She said Bowie was an influence and she was glad her manager pushed cause it paid off. Her two albums charted high on the BB200 in Alt and Rock. She received some rock radio play but not massive play. And she does have one gold album but she is not a big seller. However, she has received 11 Grammy nominations with 4 wins, mostly in rock and alt. The impressive thing is, she is not even on a major label. Seems if you have someone who can point you in the right direction and you are willing to go, you can stand out and do very well. And it is possible to receive critical acclaim and possibly win some awards without trying to compete with the female rappers and pop and dance/pop divas.
She is also Bi so the LGBT ladies are killing it in rock and winning awards. They have the grit, imagination and confidence to chart a different path from the pop divas. Brandi, Melissa, St. Vincent, Billie, Brittany Howard and Phoebe have done very well in rock and won awards. Miley and Demi did not win any Grammy's for rock but they did bypass pop for a hot minute and got #1 Alt and Rock albums. Looks good on their resumes even if the media does not view those two as rock stars, nor do I, lol.
I have always liked more male singers than females. But imo, none of the males (who are making rock music) are all that good, exciting and interesting like they were in the past. I still like Lenny Kravitz, and his rock star style and persona, but that is just about it for the men who make current rock or alt music. I thought I would like Maneskin. But I quickly lost interest when it seemed the lead singer was more into wearing garter belts, and looking for attention with OTT attire at award shows and was more about the spectacle than a talented rock band, lol. So until or if a better and more interesting male rock star or band comes along to fill that void, it seems it is the LGBT ladies who are currently the most talented rockers and garnering the most accolades for their talent. Rock on ladies. HA.
