I actually received some insight from a cast member today. It’s because he doesn’t identify as a queer person. I had also asked about why the staging for Tomorrow Belongs To Me for him was different. When he performed the song, he came out in the red wig and took it off at the end, revealing his wig cap. For everyone else, they come out in the wig cap, holding a box that contains a blonde wig instead. The Emcee then takes it off and examines it as the song ends. The cast member said that this is also because he does not identify as queer. For Eddie, his Emcee was taking off his disguise, whereas for the others who are all queer identifying, they are putting the disguise on. I thought that was a fun detail. |

go to the tkts booth in Times Square or Lincoln Center. You can get "day of" tix fr 40-50% off the face price. Every morning on their website they list what they have. No guarantee that any particular show will still be there when you get to the booth. But if you line up early you be able to get the show you want. They have tix for Cabaret for both the matinee and evening shows today. My guess is that they will have tix throughout Adam's run.

Yes! this has already happened to me, where the show closed before the date of the tickets. Of course, i got a refund, but they were a gift for a couple and I was really annoyed. For that reason I have my ticket before the holidays. The person I am going with wanted to wait until after the holidays but I talked them into before. Before Adam got there, I heard there were lukewarm reviews, so don't take a chance! |

Re the above -- this production of Cabaret was a smash in London. It won a ton of Olivier awards -- actor for Eddie, actress (Jesse Buckley was Sally), supporting actor and actress, best musical revival, director of musical. It was really well reviewed, and just a big big hit. But it was not so warmly received on Broadway. The reviews were mixed. It got a bunch of tony noms but wasn't expected to win any of them (and didn't win any save for scenic design). It may have done better but for the revival of Merrily We Roll Along, which was just a monster smash with some beloved actors and a good back story. I also think that the prior, truly excellent, revivals of Cabaret were still fresh in people's minds, and many didn't like the director, Eddie and Gayles take on the show and the characters. The show has sold fairly strongly up to now based on Eddie's star power (people really wanted to see him). It is just hard to know how long Adam and Auli'i can keep ticket sales at a level that it makes sense to keep the show running. Hopefully at least through the ends of their runs in March. But on Broadway, you never know. So I would try to get tix before year end to be on the safe side. This has nothing whatsoever to do with Adam -- it is just this production has not garnered the same love and interest it did on the other side of the pond, or that prior Broadway revivals did.

Totally agree. I, actually, wanted to see it with Eddie - I love him as an actor, until I heard Adam was replacing him. I then decided to wiat until Adam. I am hoping Adam and Auil'i can bring their fandom and maybe more ticket sales. I know it would have nothing to do with Adam, personally, but for his first, I am hoping it stays until the end of his stay. Planning on going next year, as well, but the first set I bought are expensive. The second time next year, maybe not so much. BTW, saw an instagram where Adam is signing autographs and talking to his fans on the second night, and remarking and asking them wasn't Aul'i great? Who does that? not many beside Adam Lambert, I don't think. |
