On the Idol Finale, there should be no mystery why KISS was aleardy booked for the Finale. Anywhere from the Top 5 to the Top 8 get to perform with an artists at the finale. I'm sure KISS was booked as soon as Adam made Top 5. Maybe even before, because as Q3 said, Ken Wariwck would have known what the voting was the entire Top 12. And the 2 finalists singing We Are the Champions would have been scheduled for whoever the 2 finalists were. Yes, Danny and Kris could have done it. Or Kris and Allison, or Adam and Allison. Any combination of those top 4 would have worked. It just wouldn't have been as stunning a performance without Adam. And we wouldn't have gotten to see that first look of admiration that Brian gave Adam.

Personally, I still think that KISS + Adam was only good because Adam stole the show and got to do "Beth". I can think of many, many better choices to showcase Adam. ETA: Like Adam + Pink (Pink opened the show) doing "So What" would have been so much better and would have done more to position Adam as relevant and a Pop-Rock artist. Ooh, Pink would have been spectacular. Girl does not get enough accolades here in the US. I always felt as if the Adam/KISS connection came about because the producers had so little understanding of what Adam was plus a severe lack of imagination. They saw Adam referencing Makeup!! Rock n Roll!! Dress up!! and to them that equaled KISS. I do think that their inclusion seals the opinion that the Idols aren't consulted at all, because I am SURE singing with KISS was never on Adam's bucket list. The very fact that he made it though the set is a nod to his future as an actor. Queen, on the other hand, was inspired and no matter how it came about I will be forever grateful that it happened. Even if they and Adam never played another note together, that moment in that finale was THE BOMB. I still have the finale on my DVR and I fixed it so that it ends when they cut to commercials after that performance. The pinnacle moment in a pinnacle year for sure- and my most favorite Idol moment EVER. Yes, I agree having Queen for the Idol finale was amazing -- and that Adam + QUEEN was a gift to Adam. And yes, I agree, that the Idol producers did not know what to do with Adam. But I do not think they booked KISS for Adam. I think that KISS was on the show as their lead up to their tour and releasing their first album in 11 years. IMO the producers put KISS with Adam to make it make sense why a band was on the show playing music from 30+ years ago. They could have put Adam with Fergie or Pink -- both of whom were on the show -- and it would have been better for kicking off his recording career. At the time, I was furious when the Idol producers announced that Adam would perform with KISS -- who did some pretty good music in the 70's but had made themselves jokes -- from the rampant merchandising to the cartoon show. I am still amazed at how Adam turned this into something great. And the "Beth" solo is still one of my Adam favs -- and he looked gorgeous!! singing that. |

Confused---why would Toby Knapp run into Adam at American Idol? Obviously I'm reading that wrong.

Q3, pretty sure PINK, 99.9%., was not at the Season 8 finale. Fergie was though.

Sure Idol producers may have wanted them for any number of reasons but IMO no way would Queen have associated with AI again with only Danny, Kris or Allison as the draw. Had to be Adam that overcame their enmity. When rumors of Queen first started surfacing most in the bubble were convinced it would never happen because Brian had sworn never to have anything to do with them again. |

What happened on Season 5 with Queen? Inquiring minds... (Never watched AI much until I just happened to surf through seconds before the BOW performance...and lost my mind forevermore.) ETA: KISS sucked that night. It was embarrassing. If it weren't for Adam's Beth and his voice, they would have tanked. But of course, I am just the teeniest bit biased... Queen's appearance on AI Season 5 was discussed on Thursday's thread.
