I´m so lost. Another week in hospital in the middle of Adam Storm, it´s not fair! I have watched the "in the mirror chat" and it was fab even if he looked a bit strange but handsome in a different way. Could anyone give a hint about a special page on ATopia that is more entertaining an exciting than the rest? I don´t know how to get through it all even if I really want to. Scearly, I hope you are feeling better!  Tinafea does an amazing job gathering everything together on our News Archive. The challenge looks good! (but I'm waiting until it get all hashed out because I'm confused at this point how it's supposed to work, lol). Sign me up as a $100 matcher. One thing, there might be more space in tweets if the 'Adamtopia' was left out or shortened to 'atop'. Also just calling it a ' Leap Day Challenge' with matching funds by Atop might also be encouraging to people on twitter or elsewhere who don't go here to join in. Otherwise it sounds a little exclusive rather than inclusive?I posted yesterday about an ATOP lurkers/visitors matching challenge, but now I'm worried I'm just muddling things up and that's the last thing I wanted to do!  SORRY! Is it okay if I retract that idea and just join in this bigger ATOP effort instead, so I don't cause more confusion? Please count me in as another matcher, up to $100. I'm a little lost yet on how this is going down, but I'm sure we can work it out! Oh, and I second Rabbitrabbit's suggestion that it may be more efficient, and more inclusive, not to call it an "Adamtopia Leap Day Challenge" in the required matching tag. Seems silly, maybe, but I could imagine that some members of other sites might feel conflicted loyalties over that one. After all, some Atoppers might be understandably more hesitant to donate to, say, a lambskanks leap-day challenge than to something that has more universal fan appeal (though needless to say i've got nothing against the lambskanks, they of the adam-admired name!). We want this to reach as many fans as possible, right? And we can always give credit where credit is due in the comments section of our own matching donations. Plain and simple "LEAP DAY CHALLENGE" sounds good to me, but I happily bow to the majority here, natch! as for a twitter tag, how's #takealeap ? SCEARLY: so sorry you've been sick. I'm also now quite confused as to how the matching thing works, but I will be donating on Wednesday regardless. I don't know if I can do $100 to match as I'm in the middle of some financial transitions, but I definitely will do another $30, possibly $50.
Let me know if I need to break those up into smaller increments to make sense. Thanks.
NoAngel and Cassie, I totally agree with your assessments about Adam's statement that gay is fierce – I do equate that with the Black is Beautiful movement of the '60s and '70s – it was meant to empower the minority so that they were proud of who they were and that they had nothing to feel inferior about. In order for them to step into the power of who they truly were and stand up for their rights, they had to combat centuries of programming to the contrary. Women did this in the '60s and '70s too with the Women's Lib movement.
Before we can fight for our rights, we have to BELIEVE we deserve them. When you've lived you entire life hearing evidence to the contrary, it becomes deeply ingrained and there is much programming to combat.
And this doesn't just apply to minorities or women, but to ANYONE who has been made to feel "less than" in their lives, regardless of the individual circumstances.
With gay rights being a pivotal issue right now, Adam knows there are still many kids who do feel deeply ashamed and are still trying to process this and having authority figures in this country treat them as something to fear or blatantly deride them as sinful, "abominations" that is a LOT for a young, struggling person to combat. It's a lot for a confident, fierce person to combat.
