Does this really come as a surprise. Adam keeps saying how hard it is for a gay artist to make it on conservative radio. He practically has to kill himself to get played. Thank goodness for his fans who have his back, his front and every other part of Adam. Adam and his fans, you and I and all the others, will win out ,it will just take longer , a great deal of fortitude , patience and pushing, pushing, pushing. It's not a surprise to me but there are plenty of posters who insist that Adam has ZERO problems with radio because WWFM and IIHY were hits so therefore there is ZERO prejudice. Stupid assumption but there it is. You're right .. they don't remember it was an uphill battle to get those songs played. I really think VH1 helps a great deal, Adam's videos are great. In spite of everything,I think Adam will become an epic star with or without the blessing of radio. All together now visualize this !!

I for one remember the uphill battle very well! In spite of the fact that the 2 top 40 stations in my area (Q102 Philly & B104 Allentown) strongly supported him. In fact B104 had IIHY #1 on their playlist for a long time. Different story this era unfortunately. Both added BTIKM but not playing much.
I'll be surprised frankly if nal's song gets a lot of early support since his last two releases were not successful at all.

There are SO many preconceived notions about Adam. And it really isn't a "gay" thing, imo. It is the make-up and glitter, OTT costumes and the OTT range (I have heard at least 3 DJs in the past complain about his "screaming") that some people in radio still can't get over. Some radio stations just do not want to take him seriously. And they think his fanbase is made up of 50 and 60 yr. olds.
I think Adam was ready to tone things down this era, but I also think it was probably a strategic decision encouraged by his new management. IMO this radio tour has also been about re-introducing Adam to the mainstream.
One other thing, purely speculation on my part, but I think it took an enormous effort on the part of RCA to get WWFM where it needed to be to gain traction. And I think it effected how much they could do with subsequent singles.
eta---at this point, I would rather not see CHR stations add BTIKM because that might only messthings up for the second single

I can't wait for Adam's next world tour where he can let it all fly,He's a great singer, but he also knows how to dance, and he has quite a few dance winners on Trespassing. In a way ,I'm glad he is taking a safer route this time for re-introduction. Lady Gaga just drove me crazy after a while, there is just so much OTT ,before it becomes boring. Not that I think Adam could ever be boring.. he will keep changing it up & be way more interesting than say a Gaga presenting herself as an egg. To me that just says that she ran out of ideas, Even with Born This Way.

I haven't seen the opinion that Adam has had "ZERO" problems with radio in the past. You really went to the extreme there. Some posters just don't believe that the problem with BTIKM comes down to Adam being gay. Saying that WWFM did very well on all three radio formats is not a stupid assumption, it is based on fact. WWFM had 3-4x as many spins as BTIKM does within the same time period. WWFM was at #19 on CHR within the same time period. Did all those radio stations and PDs suddenly become homophobic the last two years? Has Canada and all the European countries suddenly decided they won't play a song from a gay artists? CHR isn't playing this song because they don't feel it is a fit for their stations at this time. If the homophobic meme is accurate, then they won't play the next single either. Their homophobic ways aren't going to change with a new song! BTW, BTIKM had twice as many total spins and spins on CHR than NAL's new song did in the first two weeks of being released to radio. Do you know how many spins NAL's new single has received on CHR this past week? 0!!!

Honestly, I think Adam's management/label did their homework. The album cover (which is gorgeous) kind of sums up the strategy to me. And I think it is all working. The music industry (writers, producers, media who have worked with Adam) all have so much respect for him and take him seriously. Radio needs to catch up.
In terms of BTIKM, Canada kinda tells the story. The song hasn't connected. I don't believe it is homophobia at all.

crazyoldgal, it's not the same CHR position since 3/12. We just can't get updates until someone who has access posts #50-200. He is most likely #51 this week but we have yet to confirm.

Is Daughtry really getting much pop play? He has no buzz at all this era.

So, your top 40 stations strongly supported Adam last era, to the point of having IIHY as #1 on one of the stations, but they aren't supporting BTIKM even though they added it? How does that say "gay problem" instead of "song problem"?

"Has Canada and all the European countries suddenly decided they won't play a song from a gay artists?"
Juts because I live in Canada but I am originally from Europe I have to make a remark. I agree about Canada and disagree about the all European countries part. BTIKM has been doing pretty well in Eastern Europe. My observations are BTIKM has been present very well in various radio and MV charts in Hungary, Russia, Belorussia, Greece (not in Eastern Europe), Ukraine, and Bulgaria. In some cases even better than WWFM, e.g, in Bulgaria and Greece. Although those countries contribute pretty insignificant %s to the sales of Adams music, people there love to (travel to) attend concerts and this will work very well for Adam potentially touring that part of Europe in the future.
