I haven't had a chance to really catch up, but thanks to Atop, I saw the snippets this morning. I saw the polls and thought I would conduct my own totally (un)scientific study - a focus group of two college students working in my office. I talk to them a lot about books and tv shows, so I kind of know their tastes, but I wanted to see what they thought of Adam's new music. They both know of Adam (mainly from Idol, but also knew WWFM and IIHY) and they do know that he is my favorite singer. I shared BTIKM with one of them when the video came out. She said thought the video was cool but thought the song was kinda meh. So just about an hour ago, I snagged them when they weren't that busy and asked them to rank the four snippets of Adam's new music. The one that thought BTIKM was kinda meh, loved Cuckoo right away. I think she also thought Trespassing was fun, but she really liked the Cuckoo part of Cuckoo. The other really liked Trespassing. She liked the beat of that track. I think she was leaning towards Trespassing as her favorite, but when the end of Cuckoo came, she said "oh cool. I like that change). When I pressed her, she said she would rank Trespassing first, and Cuckoo a close second. Neither of them really seemed to feel strongly about Naked Love nor Never Close Our Eyes. They didn't dislike it, but didn't think it sounded distinct enough compared to other songs on the radio. I think my sample of two proves that we are right! ;D Trespassing or Cuckoo as the next single please! Interesting! Sounds exactly like my son's girlfriend who listened carefully and ranked the four songs last night. She always listens to KC's pop radio stations in her car. She said Trespassing was her favorite--loves the lyrics/the message, the "attitude" the beat, and the handclaps. If she were driving along, she said this one would POP out for her and really get her attention. She'd sing along to it. It doesn't sound like everything else on the radio right now--it's unique--and that's a GOOD thing in her opinion. It would make her want to check out the artist. Listen for his name. She liked Cuckoo almost equally as much, though. That was her second choice. She thinks it's a fun "party" song. Naked Love was next--she liked the lyrics and the beat, too. Nothing wrong with it at all, but sounds like other things on the radio. Never Close Our Eyes was her least favorite, ONLY because it sounded the most "generic." But she liked it too. So she likes all four, but would rather hear songs that don't sound like everything else/ones that don't have same-old same-old message.

I love reading everyone's thoughts about the snippets. Because we all have our own preferences, it shows that this CD is gonna do great! It has something for everyone.
For me, I held off on my decision until I had a chance to give them the ultimate test--listening to them in my car. My first choice is Cuckoo with Trespassing a very close second. I didn't care for Naked Love (sounded too disco to me) until I heard it in the car. I like the lyrics and the attitude much more than the music though. As for NCOE, I couldn't hit the skip button fast enough.
I can't wait to hear the other tracks, especially the ballads.
I agree with those of you who wish that Adam would stop having Dr. Luke produce his songs.
Oh, and I agree that Adam is not writing or picking songs just because they sound radio friendly. I believe this really is the kind of music Adam loves to listen to and dance to so it makes sense he would also want to create that style as well.

Thanks Mszue Great answer.. I think you're on to something. I did talk radio for awhile....my co-host had been in radio a long time. "Talent" AKA radio hosts get treated like shit by pretty much the entire food chain. Might have something to do with it! I agree with you too yippie....I did 'talent' pimping for NPR for a few years when I lived in the US...and npr is the only station in the US that actually showed respect to their on-air talent....and consequently, there was less nastiness shown there. The same holds true here for the CBC. The fact is ... as Maslow's heirarchy shows...... once basic food and security needs are met, we are not happy in our work if there are not some intrinsic rewards....either fame or respect or a sense of self-accomplishment . Most of the time there is little of this for smaller market dj's particularly....just mho

I know there is a thread for this and mods...feel free to delete...but AI has hired Tommy Hilfinger for goddess knows how many dollars....to advise these kids on how to look like a star....and they blatently ignore him and do the opposite. Then the judges applaud them....WTF is that about!!! If a major designer had given me advice...and money to fulfill it...trust me, I would not have ignored them in front of 20 million viewers!! What kind of hubris does it take to purposely do that!!??
No wonder Adam is such a standout...he knew what to do...these kids have not a clue!!! Yikes....

Just read interesting article on Dr. Luke and Sony on Billboard.biz. It's not a new article so many of you may have already read it. If only I would learn how to bring stuff over. Anyway Sony is paying Dr. Luke 60 million to start a new label and to produce music exclusively for the company. The new label will be called Kemosabe Records. He's a good man to have in Adam's corner.. Melliemom someone may have already answered you but to bring an article over this is what you do: a) go the top of the browser you are reading the article in. You will see an address for the page in a long white box. That is called a URL. It often starts with "www." or "http" copy and paste the whole address into your comment box on Atop. For example: www.hitpredictor.comIf it doesn't automatically turn blue and you want to make it an active link, just highlight it and choose the earth symbol "insert hyperlink" above the comment box. www.hitpredictor.compresto! BTW that article has been posted here before.

Thank you to those who were kind to me during my grumpy vent earlier today! Sometimes I think the radio folks in Seattle think they're too cool for school (or at least too cool for idols). It's very odd, since this is such a big market (probably as difficult as LA in it's way). I am over my grumpiness and back in my Adam happy place now.
Sugaree -- so happy to hear your news and I will be continuing to keep your mom and family in my thoughts and prayers.
Okay Seattle folks, maybe we can do an Adam meet-up sometime. I'm willing to organize something if we want to get together. PM me if you would like to do something like this--at least we can all flail together over coffee or something!
