Came across an article today that I think people here will find really interesting as it pretty much describes and explains many of the paradoxes of Adam... The Creative Personality. Not sure how I missed this as is written by one of my favorite authors - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi www.psychologytoday.com/articles/199607/the-creative-personalityExcerpt: "...Creative people, to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping. When tests of masculinity/femininity are given to young people, over and over one finds that creative and talented girls are more dominant and tough than other girls, and creative boys are more sensitive and less aggressive than their male peers. This tendency toward androgyny is sometimes understood in purely sexual terms, and therefore it gets confused with homosexuality. But psychological androgyny is a much wider concept referring to a person's ability to be at the same time aggressive and nurturant, sensitive and rigid, dominant and submissive, regardless of gender. A psychologically androgynous person in effect doubles his or her repertoire of responses. Creative individuals are more likely to have not only the strengths of their own gender but those of the other one, too..." Have at it! Ooooh thanks. Brb, reading.... Interesting read, and the Huffington Post article from the other day used some of this too, but specifically looked at metal musicians and stand up comedians. I'm mostly familiar with professional visual artists, but this all rings very true for me and my friends. I really like how the writer explains that complexity is very central to creative people, that they contain "multitudes" or many faces, some of them seemingly paradoxical. We have all seen this with Adam. Also that there is a combination of wisdom and a child-like naivete' -- which allows you to dream big without self-censoring, but then also to make that dream into reality with hard-work and a grounded understanding of the real world. The androgyny of gender role stereotyping is interesting and hearkens back to Virginia Woolf saying that great writers have androgynous minds. I think it comes out of the fact that for most self-confessed artists, their identity as an artist may be more central than any other identity including gender, age, race, religion etc. I interpreted this as a small part of Adam's resistance to being put into a "gay role model" box initially after Idol. For example a good friend of mine was just passed up for getting a museum award for another women artist whose work the curator defined as "feminist". Both artists' work has certain similarities in subject matter, but my friend refused to have her work defined solely that way during her studio visit with the curator -- I think that this actually counted against her and I understand the frustration of having others think that your cultural identity is more important than your actual art work. An other interesting point from the article which rang true to me is that artists have a combination of humility and pride. They feel confident because of their past achievements, but they don't hold onto them, "they're usually so focused on future projects and current challenges that past accomplishments, no matter how outstanding, are no longer very interesting to them." At the same time that a particular piece or song is something that you create, perform, and then move on from, having a creative block or a psychological or physical inability to create for awhile is a blow to ones self-identity and leaves one feeling lost and empty. I've definitely been there. "Perhaps the most important quality, the one that is most consistently present in all creative individuals, is the ability to enjoy the process of creation for its own sake." I hope Adam is finding a lot of joy in the song-writing and studio sessions right now. This also reminds me of how he has previously said that (at least for awhile) his most rewarding experiences were on the shoots of videos, where a complete visual, dance and audio creation came together. I'm really interested to see what form his music takes as he moves forward, but also how he visually interprets it live, in cover and promotional art, and in videos.

Hi everyone!! Sorry for my poor and bad English (Greek no 2 here Gelly). The Monty Python conversation from yesterday made me register and post. I saw Adam for the first time on youtube(Oprah, Nov 2009), and clicked on a video (don't remember which one) to listen to him. It took me half a phrase to become a fan (for the first time in my life). There are many many people who are extremely talented but this... I couldn't believe what i was hearing. I know how rare it is to have this musicality, intelligence, sence of rhythm, charisma, love and knowledge of music etc, plus the technique to support your musical ideas, the technique that allows you to actually do what you imagine doing. Haha, there is always something missing from my students (I am a classical piano teacher). Anyway, after the AMAs I was so sad to see those interviews with the silly questions about make up, the AMAs, or anything else except music (the interviewers didn't show him the respect he deserves), and this Monty Python video always came to my mind. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ9myHhpS9sFirst of all, your English is very good. And even if it were not, no one is critiquing English abilities. We love our multi-lingual, multi-national, multi-cultural membership here. Second, welcome! I get a particular thrill when someone joins who has a classical music background. I have started a separate thread to discuss music theory and Adam's vocal technique/ability. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out. adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=vocalAnd for all the other new members at ATop, you are invited as well. The thread is not just for music geeks like me. It's for anyone who has a comment about Adam's voice or musicality, or who has a question about voice production -- Adam's or others. Pop on over. Recent topics include the difference between singing opera and singing pop/rock, and the question of whether Adam has damaged his voice over the years. With news rather slow, this is a good time to ask those music questions that have been rattling around in your brain. There are no "stupid" questions. If you are wondering you can bet someone else is, too. Collectively, we usually find answers to those questions --- or invent them.

I can't believe I have NEVER heard this song! When did Adam record this? I have heard it mentioned before, but had not heard it. Love all of Adam's smiles on this, what a blast to the past!

I doubt Sauli being in LA yet, but won't mind if I'm wrong :D, have no proof just lurked the original twitterer's tweets and they did not convince me. Hower, the new Tutka should be online any minute now, says Katri in her blog now. So we'll see (or not :D) what's up. Edit: Sauli is on the Tutka, it was taped this morning so he is not in LA. Just watching it now tinyurl.com/5wnhdh9

He wont. Today he tweeted this : @tommyjoeratliff: just figured out how to block the haters! awesome! Sorry, I meant I hope It doesn't get so out of hand that Adam deletes, but I can't imagine that happening yet. Wonder how Tommy has survived this long without knowing how to block???? I can't see any scenario where Adam deletes his twitter account. he's said so many times how much he loves the immediate interaction with fans. Also, I have to assume that he and Tommy (or whoever) just laugh at that kind of nonsense)
