I get that it it the same for everyone. I get that this is how it must work. I get there is no other way and I am not asking for, expecting or suggesting another way. I just took it down to the ROOT of my anxiety and that is that Adam is not in charge of this decision. He can't be. But as a result, I am nervous. I am too. I think many of us are. We've waited so long for this album, and now reality is setting in. Anybody else remember the space launches? It's like we're sitting there listening to Walter Cronkite chat away with some expert ... while our eyes rest on that Saturn rocket and our hearts are in our throats for the man sitting on top of it. Because he has so much damn guts and we all know our destiny lies in the stars but in the back of our minds we know we could blow up on the launch pad. At least that's how I feel. That's also how we got WWFM! ;D ...and IIHY. Without WWFM, Adam's last era would have been an entirely different era. This current one would have been completely different as well. Labels make mistakes. Not all great songs become hits, sometimes terrible songs become worldwide hits. NO ONE can predict any of it 100% of the time! There are tons of factors involved in picking a single and in what makes a hit. I've often wondering how much the international market factors in when picking a single -- or whether the assumption is for a pop artist that the international market will usually follow the US market. It's been interesting to watch how different songs (of Adam or other new/breaking pop artists) get varied airplay in different countries. Does anyone know the general ballpark of how Adam's total sales stack up US vs. international? Is it 50/50? 60/40? The Trespassing press release said FYE had sold a total of 2 million albums. (which I believe is "rounding up" and probably counting shipped copies and anything else they can throw in there) Just guessing, going on absolutely nothing but a few facts pulled from here and there, I would bet that the album totals are probably around a 50/50 split. For the most part, US singles positions on charts in other countries reflect what is big on the charts in the US. Usually a song has to make it big here, to transfer over across the board in several countries. There are exceptions, but we can see that WWFM was the big hit in most of the countries outside of the US. There were a few exceptions here and there, but not enough countries to show a pattern for any other singles. |
