This is a bit OT and may have already been discussed. I just read an interesting article in the March 26, 2012 New Yorker magazine called "The Song Machine." It's mainly about the hitmakers behind Rihanna. It was an interesting read about how hits are made, the importance of a good hook, and how pop music evolves. Ester Dean has written a lot of hits for Rihanna, but she wants to be a solo artist too. Her collaborator, Eriksen, says, "A lot of writers want to be artists. Most of them can sing, and a lot of them can sing really well. But, to be able to perform, to be the person everyone looks at when you walk into the room, with all the publicity and touring, and then to be able to get that sound on the record -- that's not easy. You can be a great singer, but when you hear the record it's missing something." He was asked what is that? "It's a fat sound and there's a sparkle around the edges of the words." I also just finished reading the Nile Rodgers' autobiography "Le Freak" and I would highly recommend it. Nile was constantly told that his music sounded too black, which made me think of Adam being told too gay, too theatrical, etc. Finally, I watched the British Music Awards which I had recorded some time ago. It really made me realize how hard it is to reach the top and break out internationally. Adam is competing with all sorts of British artists trying for success. What was especially astounding was a band called "Blur" received a lifetime musical achievement award and I had never, ever heard of them!! I am keeping my fingers crossed that whatever Adam's next single is, it will be a smash. I want to see him at the Brits next year!!! Amazing band. AMAZING One of my favorite songs And this is the same song live on the Wembley Arena. Look at the crowd!

Timidly raising hand as a voracious fanfic reader, in many fandoms, since the birth of the internet. Some literary, some based on tv shows, and yes some based on real celebrities. The sheer talent out there, if you know where to look, is staggering. I realize no one will believe me but I'm not really interested in the graphic descriptions of sex, gay or straight, RPS or character (no matter how well written. I'd rather read " and then they had mind blowing sex" than actually read the mechanics of it. I'm a bit of a prude, I guess! ) I really do read for the quality of writing, the entertaining characterizations, the dialogue, the plot, the sheer elegance of some writers. And yes, 99% of ALL fanfic out there is utter crap. Tip: if you want to dip your toe into the literary genre known as fanfic...DO NOT start at fanfic dot net. I agree with whomever said it's quantity over quality. I feel like I just outed myself. Lol and part of what I love is that unlike most mass-market romance if you are interested and choose carefully you can find entertaining and believable characterizations, great dialogue, compelling plot, and sheer elegance of writing, along with blistering hot sex in the same story. ;D

Regarding color. I think this could be one of Adam's future nightmares...dreaming about looking into a sea of gray and yellow in EVERY arena in every freaking country where he is giving a concert. Can you imagine? Must come right behind looking at pictures of himself ten-thousand times in his twitter feed. And while I am guilty of contributing to the latter too...I think I will go for more independence with my clothing. And I could actually wear grey and yellow, though not those shades. But WILL.NOT.DO! On the other hand, changing our twitter avis for one day on May 15 could be a pretty good helping hand we fans could lend to the cause. Can you imagine, if radio stations and others would find the occasional yellow and grey tweets on their feed asking them whether they had already checked out the new album and what they think about it, etc....and obviously we could also request the single while we were at it. The one that we are getting very soonish, whatever that means in UK time. Yes, that one! I totally agree with this. I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but, although the concertgoers dressing in "glam" was fun and meant to show support, it is also in stark contrast to Adam saying everyone should act and dress like themselves, not like him. Every concert doesn't have to be a dress-up game. There are other ways to show support of him and for me, my way to show that I "get him" is to be myself. And that is certainly not by wearing yellow and black. The concerts could not come close to what it was like being in Pittsburgh for 7 months. You DO know, I hope, that the colors for the Steelers(football,) the Pirates(baseball,) and the Penquins(hockey) are all black and gold. OMG, you have no idea. My guess would be that (outside of work attire) 80% of the population at any given time is wearing team colors. I still think SOMEONE in the fandom could find a way to adapt waving the Terrible Towel (gold) to suit our Adam tour purposes.

ETA Corrected my post . I read it differently. So she thinks it's fast! Good!

Those types of deals are for artists like Gaga, Madonna and Katy Perry. I'm just hoping for a debut on a big CHR station this time around!

Gelly, I gathered that they are an amazing band, but I don't think I've ever seen a music video by Blur on the Much Music countdown and I have been watching that pretty faithfully for years. In fact, I'm a wee bit broken hearted that Adam's BTIKM video never made it on to that countdown. They showed him so much love last time. It is ranked 11 on the Much More Music countdown right now.
I guess my point is how much competition is out there and how hard is to make it to the top. Adam has done amazingly well so far and I think we fans have had a lot to do with it. So yay to Adamtopia and all the other committed fans out there. We all deserve a collective pat on the back.

I'm pushing for it to be the cover story in the May 4 issue of Gloss Magazine - San Francisco's Gay Bi-weekly Publication. Will definitely keep you posted on that one. Meanwhile, the 4 promo tracks they sent from Adam's new "Trespassing" album are pretty sick'ning! Max Martin. Bruno Mars. Dr. Luke. Pharrell. H-O-T!

IMO he hits everything with a sledgehammer

There are A LOT of British bands that you probably never heard of, and at the same time there A LOT of bands from the US or Canada that I probably never heard of. Yes the competition is huge!
