No but I figured it out.
The promo was soft but there. The lack of a direct sales message is because it was not available on iTunes and they own Idol -- and pay $30 million a year for their exclusive. But, Adam and Ryan talked about the Dance Mix version and Adam said it was being sold to benefit the Trever Project and mentioned the NoH8 Campaign. (He just could not say were to buy it.) But outside of Idol it is in a lot of places -- it is posted on all kinds of Idol and LGBT friendly sites -- MJ for example has a thread for it. There will be news pick up and it will sell. They will move it to iTunes at some point. [raised eyebrow] So your saying it was intentional?? They still didn't talk about GNT, tho'. [wonders how and whether to make a wishful metaphorial silver lining lolly for Q3] No silver lining -- just I hadn't thought about the fact that they could not promote a song that was not available on iTunes. The way the numbers works, they have to sell 2 on iTunes for every one sold on AO.com. My guess is that they decided to sell as much as they could to core fans and LGBT supporters first -- then move it to iTunes to reach beyond the fan base and active LGBT supports. It makes sense because that is the best way to make money for Trever Project. Why they did not promote the DVD+CD puzzles me. But it was mentioned on the Tuesday Show. ETA: The performance is getting great reviews -- so it appears to have been well received.

Goodness, sometimes I think we all need to zoom out. It's not as big as we think it is and not as small as we worry it is when we zoom out. Make sense of that if you can.

Huh? Usually I'm the one nit-picking while peeps are over the moon. I caught the performance out of the corner of my eye putting babies to bed and will watch later, but from the little I saw, Adam looked great, sounded great - more rock wail, less falsetto - and had a nice interaction with Ryan, as he always does. Adam looked humble, almost shy, probably because this song matters so much to him. Win win etc.
Why jump to conclusions that Adam's being dissed or shunned or whatevs if someone didn't lick Adam's boots? Remember Aussie X-Factor? Everyone was convinced one judge had a bitch face etc, when that judge tweeted Adam had a great voice right after. Geez, get a grip!
It's great Adam got to meet Steven Tyler. Full stop. Obviously he's an admirer of his vocal style as well as his style, period. And I like Tyler, he still dresses like a peacock, that's awesome.
Sooo...Adam needs great melody/hook writers. That's all. He's not a Bruno Mars or CeLo who can song write his way to greatness. Adam's great voice on the next album will be nothing unless he has the songs. Maybe he just needs to stay away from the deadly combination of Ferras, Ely Creep, Alisan and Benson all on one song, and he's fine LOL. My hope is that Adam's determination to co-write so much doesn't get in the way of his commercial possibilities. And by the way, two of my favorite songs on FYE are Broken Open, DTRH and Voodoo - as album tracks (or bonus tracks) but in no way are they hits.
All in all, great performance and really a bonus when Adam doesn't even have a single!
