JMHO -- I think that Adam could have a song nominated that got critical acclaim but had somewhat modest sales. But I doubt he can win a Grammy without commercial success. Look at the history of Best Male Pop Vocal winners....there are hits and then there are these songs..... 2010 "Make It Mine" performed by Jason Mraz Did not make B Hot 100 2009 "Say" performed by John Mayer B Hot 100 #25 2007 "Waiting On The World To Change" performed by John Mayer B Hot 100 #14 2006 From the Bottom of My Heart performed by Stevie Wonder Did not make B Hot 100 2005 "Daughters" performed by John Mayer B Hot 100 #19 2003 "Your Body Is a Wonderland" performed by John Mayer B Hot 100 #18 2002 "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" performed by James Taylor B Hot 100 #18 The same thing happens in every Grammy category. Huh? You just switched categories! We were talking about the Song of the Year category, not the Best Male Pop Vocal Category. That category doesn't even exist anymore! Unless a song comes from a smaller genre, it will be difficult to get a Pop song a Grammy nomination in the Song of the Year category unless it is somewhat successful. Meaning, a Pop song needs to be somewhat popular on Pop stations to be seriously considered. Adam is releasing Pop songs, he is not an Indie or Folk singer. Adam needs to have a single that does fairly well on the Pop charts to get any type of serious consideration for the small group of FIVE songs, that are taken from many genres, for Song of the Year. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. The original posted question was about Grammy nominations and if a song had to be in the Top 10 to get a nomination -- I used SOTY to illustrate that it was not essential for a song to be Top 10 to get an nomination even for the biggest song category. My opinion on Adam and Grammys is that I do not think there is any special "hit requirement" for pop artists vs. other genres. >> Country is the most hit-centric genre from what I see, not pop. If Adam has big hits, he will be considered a major pop artist. If he does not have huge hits, he will be considered a very talented artist. Either path can lead to a Grammy nomination. I used Pop Vocal Performance to illustrate because the Song of the Year songs are not categorized by Genre and very few pop songs get nominated in this category. Partially because hit "pop songs" are often from other genres. Assuming that "pop song" = charted on Pop Charts ---- there are pop songs that got SOTY nominations but were not major hits: Corinne Bailey Rae has two non-hit nominations -- "Like a Star" and "Put Your Records On". Was only #64 on the US Pop Charts and was an Adult Pop hit. John Legend & will.i.am "Ordinary People" -- not a top 10 hit but charted on the pop charts. ---- Do I think that Adam has a song that deserves a Grammy nomination? -- I will wait until I hear the recordings before I even put forward a guess. Best Pop Best Pop Vocal Album -- is the award I would like to see Adam get nominated for and win. I hope the whole album is as good as the clips we've heard. But if it is not his time with this album, he will win this category some day.

Melvin is Adam's doppelganger. Prepare to be f***ed. But why do we think Melvin is returning? Because Adam had some stubble when last seen and we haven't seen him for a bit. Oh, and it is fun to joke about on a day with no Adam.

[looks annoyed] It was a historical example used to illustrate a point, bb, and your response - while accurate - is sounding ruder than I hope you intended. Please dial down your phrasing. If you disagree with a post, do it respectfully. Thanks. Well, it wasn't my intent. Sorry that I annoyed you. I'm referring to the Song of the Year category. That is a whole different animal than the Male Vocalist of the Year.

Kathryn17, who is a very diligent decipherer of lyrics (and will analyze with the input of others to get a consensus) has it down as: She wants to be up there in the air where the clouds live the sweetest seeds make the best trees30,000 feet she can smile and now she puts the shot glass down she asks for another round she wants to hit the clouds honey are you up there now? she puts the shot glass down she asks for another round girl don’t you hit the ground Is it kickin’ in? Which I can totally hear. kathryn17.tumblr.com/I just looked at her tumblr. She's the same girl who did the bday cards for Adam and Sauli, isn't she? I don't know if as a non English speaker I should even say that, but I've got dispute some of the lyrics. Mostly just little things that don't matter much, but one thing I do want to mention is Broken English's "I know you won't understand, but I've got to tell you somehow". What I hear is "I know you will understand". It also makes more sense to me: if he won't understand anyway, why bother? I think he believes he WILL understand, if he only finds the right way to say it (or to tell him in a non verbal way). What do the English speakers hear? I need to go back and listen, but first thought is I don't think so. If he knows he will understand, what is the point of the entire song? Why is he having to try if he knows he will understand regardless? There would be no struggle to communicate in the first place, which is the theme of the song. BTW, it looks like they're rehearsing again. Ashley tweeted a pic of Tommy and Keisha 11 minutes ago. twitter.com/#!/ashleydzerigian/status/193826620803526656 ETA: The Melvin!panic is coming from a teasing tweet by Keisha, who was teasing someone who asked her if he was growing a beard. She tweeted back, "Wouldn't that be sexy?" And of course, she got a rousing chorus of HELLZ NO!!! Now, she just tweeted this: Glamily I dont know if @adamlambert is growing a beard.... Is he not there???
