Here is the just about same in English though www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12720219No one knows exactly yet what's going on and what the effect will be. Just brought the Tsernobyl thing into my mind, that one was not so far away from us. (Tsernobyl is something else in English, this is the Finnish way to write it). But always one can HOPE that it won't be that bad or worse, I'd love it to be something pretty much less.

Yes, I found one and there was one other too. It's in the yesterday's thread but I'll go find it for you, hold on... Found: Thank you, zinnia! I badly needed something uplifting, today: I'm watching the reports on Japan and they are horrifying.

Tsernobyl was the first thing that came to my mind also. It was right after i had my daughter she was just a little baby and it was terryfing to listen to what effect Tsernobyl had to the pregnant mothers and all the other diseases that came up even 20 - 30 years later.

The news just keeps getting worse. I'm in Japan, but I wasn't feeling personally threatened until today. Now I'm starting to get nervous. I would like to know in plain English what the problems with the nuclear plant mean for the people of Japan. I was thinking we were pretty far away, but for radiation coming through the air, this is not far at all.

They (Finnish nuclear experts I mean) say that the next couple of hours will show how bad the situation is. They don't know which plant in Fukushima is in question, and how big it is and how bad the damage is. My thoughts are with you and everybody else in Japan.
