Adam on Entertainment Tonight Broadcast 4.25.12 Entertainment Tonight did a segment about Queen to promote their appearance on tonight on American Idol. They showed a clip of Adam singing with Queen at the EM’s and identified him as “Queen’s new singer" Read more: atop.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=daily&action=display&thread=841&page=1#ixzz1t9aOc86qI was really surprised that EW did this little promo on their show last night. They used to really have an "in" with Adam, and vice versa. They did the "Exclusive" on his IIHY photo shoot. Now, they run this little gem of "Queen's new singer, Adam Lambert". Do they not know what is going on with him these days? Did they report on Adam doing the EMA's last November? Have they had a segment on the new album? Just wondering WTF? And surprised that there hasn't been some media mention of that little statement. Guess everyone thinks this is old news? I just have to wonder if this was a good thing, you would think for those not keeping up with Adam, it would be very confusing. We live in the Adam bubble, but I think a lot of people don't know anything about what Adam has been doing since Idol. And now, "Queen's new singer, Adam Lambert" comes out on national TV entertainment coverage. My brain may not be fully engaged yet........................... I was wondering the same thing, and thought their piece was confusing when they didn't clarify that Adam was joining Queen for 4 gigs only, and that he had his own new album to promote. :

What time is Jimmi Kimmel, how many hours from now? About 10 hours from now is when Adam will perform. I think we will all be using a world clock this year... Kimmel's show starts at midnight, pacific time and lasts till about 1:07, so set dvds accordingly. The musical guest is at the end of the show, in the last 15 minutes, performing one whole number, and then having part of one played during ending credits. Here is a world clock so you can figure out how many hours ahead of pacific time you are. Seems to me you'll be able to get a good night's rest. www.worldtimezone.com/

I put Adam in Johnny Weir in the same category. Successful, proud, forthright men who aren't afraid to be exactly who they are (ok Johnny was technically in the closet for awhile, but that's a personal call).
Actually isn't any attempt to distinguish these two men from each other and from some hypothetical person who embodies the 'screaming queen' stereotype, whatever one means by that, doing exactly what the article writer is cautioning against? That way lies quicksand....
slightly OT scroll warning....
For me the term 'alpha male' sets my teeth completely on edge, but that may be because the only time I've heard it in contemporary usage (IA past 70's TV or journalism) has to with 'The Game' and pickup artists, and the whole foundation of the theory is very misogynist IMHO and attempts to define personal power and charisma in an extremely simplistic and misleading way.

Great dialogue going on about gay guys and ADAM. I think his AMA performance and his first album cover hurt him with fellow gays. They ran for the hills & didn't want to associated with Adam.
Now that he has changed his image and is talking to them directly about their own prejudice against diversity in their community,I think there will be a big shift towards acceptance of Adam and his incredible talent. The truth always wins out and Adam doesn't shy away from bold courageous dialogue.Just love the man!

I'm with you. I can't stand Joshua's voice. When he goes for a power note, he sounds like a cement mixer. Such an unpleasant tone. He still hasn't shown anywhere near the versatility that Adam showed when he was on Idol. (Yes, I compare everyone to Adam. You gotta problem with that?) That's a great article, gelly. This quote-- "When we look at Lambert or a Johnny Weir, we are confronted with an image that makes us unconfortable. It makes us uncomfortable because it seems to reinforce a stereotype that we as a community are trying so hard to shatter in order to gain acceptance and full equality. The reality is, though, that men like Lambert and Weir are part of our community and we shouldn’t shy away from them"--makes me think of an interview I saw with Jane Espenson and Cheeks, co-writers of Husbands. They said that ten years ago, a character like Cheeks wouldn't have been written into a TV show (or in this case, a webseries) because everyone felt it was politically incorrect to show "effeminate" gay men. The gay characters had to be indistinguishable from the straight characters. But gay men like Cheeks certainly exist, and it is insulting to them to pretend that they don't. It's like saying there's something wrong with being who they are, and there isn't! This article actually irritated me. I do not put Adam and Johnny Weir into the same category. To me Johnny is more effeminate, and Adam is classic might I say gorgeous, alpha male. He is categorizing them as freaks, because they express themselves a little differently, and are in the entertainment business. He is basically stating that many of the gay males have lives just like you and I. To me that is a given. Hell we (gay, straight, transgender) are all human being with insecurities, families, jobs, stress, happiness, kids, etc. I don't think we do anything differently except in the bedroom. I know Adam says he's a freak. It's okay for him to say it, but protective mamma here don't want others saying it !!!! End of Rant !!!! I thought the article was excellent! Yes I don't care for the "queens" comment but we need to remember that for most people they only know Adam from Era 1 where quite frankly, he was quite made up visually. So I can deal with this. The main point of the article and was written very well was his way of highlighting just why the gay community should support Adam and Johnny... For example: "We should own a Weir and a Lambert as much as we do a figure like a Gareth Thomas. Because while Lambert and Weir may not representallof us, they do represent some segment of our community. And those people are looking at Lambert and Weir; saying ‘that’s me’; and gaining confidence from that." and "The Lamberts and Weir’s of the world are also making it easier for someone like a Ricky Martin or a Chely Wright to come out. Lambert and Wier are demontrating that you can be out and still have fans and a career. They are demonstrating ‘if I can do it, you can do it’ to others who may be more reluctant to be out and giving them just a little bit more courage and inspiration to reach for the knob on that closet door and turn it." and so true! "Finally, we should own the Lamberts and Weirs of the community because if we don’t, the haters will. The people who want to keep us down will use them to say ‘see gay people are different; they’re bad.’ Let’s not give them that power... proud2bhere.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/does-adam-lambert-make-us-embarrassed-to-be-gay-he-shouldnt/

To me Adam is not an alpha male. He fully embraces his feminine side. In fact it's one of the things I adore about him. And I can almost bet that he shows his feminine side more in his rl.
And the article at least for me, is saying in very simple words, cause I can't fully express myself in English, that, as Adam says, "we are all different " I don't think the article says that Adam and Weir are the same. They're not. It says that we should accept everyone in the gay community and not only the ones who are butchy enough, cause we are afraid that if we show our feminine side, the people around us won't accept us.
"Because while Lambert and Weir may not representallof us, they do represent some segment of our community. And those people are looking at Lambert and Weir; saying ‘that’s me’; and gaining confidence from that."
"When we own a Johnny Weir, we strip the power out of the hands of the haters to use those individuals as fear-mongering sterotypes against us. When we proudly claim Lambert as one of our own, we dilute the power of those who want to oppress us and make ourselves more empowered in the process. When we are proud of every intelligent, successful, well-adjusted person within our community no matter what stripe of the rainbow they make up, then we reduce the shame and stigma for everyone in the community and that’s the best reason of all to embrace our own."
ETA rabbit I just saw your post. ITA about the alpha male.
