My understanding is that CDs that are shipped count for first week sales just fine if they arrive early, it's the intended drop date/delivery date that's important because mailing times are variable. It's only if you buy the CD at a store a day early (for example its stocked on the shelves early), and it's rung up on a cash register that it doesn't count for first week sales.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

My concern - Are all these early shippings of Trespassing going to count for first week sales when they are received almost two weeks before official release date? they are pre-orders and all pre-orders count towards first week sales regardless of shipping or receiving dates. |

You are correct. But the only delivery we know about is Canada and Canadian Soundscan is based on a sample of retailers -- and are an estimate. "The top selling albums in Canada compiled from a national sample of retail store and mass merchants' reports collected, compiled, and provided by Nielsen SoundScan." The other early shipment reports were also for box set orders outside of the US. |
