First things first - never assume that someone doesn't know what it is to be a minority. I know what it's like - been there, done that, still bleeding. I know every issue you are talking about from first hand - my own. And I learned that when you don't want to be a minority, want to be equal you must open that minority and be equal every step of the way. You can't be exclusive and then inclusive and then again exclusive as a community. It's not ivory tower, IMO you need to say to people "Come on, see it, touch it, feel it, understand it". It hurts and it's hard, and people are ignorant and do stupid things and say stupid things. But this is the way people are. Maybe my experience is differnet than yours but IMHO this is not good to say to people, when they think that beeing gay should not matter (and they are right about it), that it's matter and then again it's not. It's confusing people and deters them. It's like labyrinth and they don't have a map, unfortunately. I'm not patronizing you or anyone, but I can't agree with you, not in everything. It's only my opinion and my experience. I think this is very well said, nonchallance. It is tricky. You see the problem in movies when they're trying to depict minorities. If the minority character has flaws, some in the community will complain that the movie is trying to say that all members of that minority have that particular flaw. So the movies respond by making the minority character practically perfect (as with Sidney Poitier's character in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner), and some in the community wonder why they can't be portrayed as three-dimensional people. Even members of a minority themselves don't agree on the right way to achieve their aims or even what their aims should be. For every person who believes that the ultimate goal should be to blend into the rest of society, there is another who believes that attitude is offensive. As I said, it's tricky, and we're all stumbling through this together as best we can. I see the point being made by all parties here but I have one bone to pick with the original post. When we went to the blogger's site and commented we went in a misguided attempt to be supportive and thankful. It seems we went about it the wrong way and incurred the wrath of some readers. But we went there with good intentions.
When the poster came here, they came to berate us! We did not show enough deference to the gay experience yet this person came to a forum dedicated to an artist they referred to as frothy and lightweight, and made no attempt to recognize our interest in the blog post. Furthermore, they tried to lean on the weight of the Village Voice when in fact, it was not in that publication at all.
Good can only come of conversations that two well meaning parties take part in. I could be wrong but it looks to me like that other person just 'joined' us so they could dump on us....no comments on the merits of Trespassing. I guess you could call me an Aristotelian as I believe intentions are important.
Adam would NOT, in my opinion, want to be purchased by the gay community IN SPITE of being just pop froth and drivel. That would insult everything he stands for. JMHO

I could NOT find Trespassing in iTunes, top selling 200 albums. WTF????? It is at #69 on Pop iTunes. Just goes to show you that the rest of the world doesn't see things the way we do. Hopefully it catches on and moves up the iTunes overall album chart. What is the point of pre-ordering a digital album? It will move up closer to release time. Doing OK on Amazon: Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #26 in Music (See Top 100 in Music) #8 in Music > Alternative Rock #8 in Music > Pop > Adult Alternative #21 in Music > Rock

JMHOHere's my intention... focus on Adam and get Adam heard by as many folks as possible. that is my intention. I will spend time getting radio to play him where I can,I will plaster his music on my face book and I will do all I can to help Adam reach the success, he so deserves. I have bought so many of his Trespassing Cds to gift, that I can't recall where they are all coming from. Just sayin...................................
