Ok, first thing first - some people warned us the snippets did not really reflect the quality of the final work. SO TRUE! I listened to the snippets a few hours ago and thought they were amazing... NOT EVEN CLOSE to the Real Thing! They managed to cut all the amazing vocal parts from every snippet, and listening to the whole album is one kick after the other!
Now, while I despise JLo, on to my goosies-meter: Got first goosebumps on Underneath and then on Running.
Of course, my ass moved automagically on pretty much the whole first half of the album, as intended by Mr. Executive Producer.
If I may nitpick, I did not think Nirvana needed that kind of percussion. I expected a more "Broken Open"-like treatment. 4 out of 5 for me. I can live with the drums on OOL, but I still prefer the various live versions.
I did not like Kickin In the first time I heard the snippet, although I realize it is a vocal masterpiece with a rare AFL falsetto. But it is growing on me now.
LOVE Cuckoo, Shady, Naked Love, Pop That Lock, Broken English, Underneath, Chokehold, Running: 5/5. Trespassing, OOL: 4.5/5. Kickin In, Take Back, Nirvana: 4/5.
One of the best albums I have ever heard, and I love the variety of styles.
For reference, my all-time favorite albums where I don't skip a single song: ELO "Time", Helloween "Keeper of the 7 Keys Part 2", Gamma Ray "Land Of The Free", A-Ha "Foot Of The Mountain".
On FYE, I used to skip the title song and Aftermath (until I fell in love with the GNT acoustic version and learned to like the original). No skipping this Era!
Listening to Runnin... And yes, goosebumps.
Adam has done something extraordinary here-- and I truly believe this is a gamechanger for him.
