Is Cuckoo cuckoo or Adam's 2 cents on it
-on partying and straightening
Adam Lambertþ@adamlambert
Cuckoo: yeah that's right. I'm nuts. But damn it's fun, you coming along for the ride? Cuckoo is about partying. It's a really fun pop song. It looks like it, sounds like it, but there's a BUT to it. Before I, or more correctly, before Adam goes into all that, here are some excerpts about him as a party boy, for the sake of precision and respect towards an important part of Adam's life and character:
PARTY BOY
Indeed, though he's from San Diego by way of Indianapolis, Lambert is very much an L.A. success story. Much of his beguiling flamboyance reflects his time as a club kid, frequenting the city's liveliest dance spots: Mustache Mondays, Miss Kitty's Parlour, Dragstrip 66.

Adam: That’s the thing about me…I was a chorusboy for work and by late night, I was a club kid. So I was like going out after the show and getting dressed up a lot. I was really into Miss Kitty’s [Parlour] too because that’s where I lived, right around the corner [near the Dragonfly].
LL: Do the Boulet Brothers know that?
Adam: I think so, I’ve seen them at one point since then. I used to get so dressed up, too, because that was the only outlet I had for that and I love dressing up.
LL: I think people in LA would love to know that you’re very much a product of our nightlife.
Adam: I went out in West Hollywood plenty, but I also loved Dragstrip [66]. I performed there once, with Mz A and my friend Scarlett.

Adam: I have a very gluttonous, hedonist personality. I love the idea of a wild night out, and if there could be an orgy in the corner and a hookah over there - I love the idea of that. But I’m moving out of that phase of my life.

How does Adam party nowadays, or what kind of partying has he moved on to? House parties, for one:
Adam: I’ve been to a loooot of parties, [laughs]. Best house party I've ever been to? I don’t know. I throw really good ones. I have parties all the time.
Q: What are your house parties like?
Adam: Fun. I have great friends and we put on music and we act stupid…it’s just good time.
Q: So the only real way you know you’re at Adam Lambert party is if you feel real shady the next morning.
Adam: Probably. They do go hard, we go really hard.

ADAM'S "BUT"
If you thought Cuckoo is just about partying, you better
think again! Here are Adam's thoughts about Cuckoo, from general info, to Adam's input on the meaning of the lyrics:
Adam: I wrote the song with Bonnie McKee, who’s a great writer. We wrote it about just wanting to lose your damn mind, you know, that feeling like partying to the point of insanity. I wanted to write a jam about just being nuts. It’s pretty light hearted, it’s pretty silly . There’s one line in the bridge that has a little weight to it, it says: “ I got to get out of this strait jacket” I think that line, if you can dissect it by itself, there’s a lot of weight to it. So, hopefully when I get to the point of making a music video, maybe I’ll give it a little social commentary at that point.

Adam: I’m cuckoo, we’re all cuckoo, we’re nuts, right? There’s something kind of liberating about feeling completely crazy, it’s like: “I don’t care what you think, I’m just going to do what I want to do”. Even though it’s a fun pop song, there’s a darker undercurrent: it compares wanting to party and be free to people looking at it and saying; "Oh, you’re crazy.” As if you should be institutionalized, or put in a straitjacket, or in a nuthouse. One of the things I find really interesting is back in the day, they took gay people and gave them electro shock therapy so they would not be gay anymore. That’s why I called it a “straight jacket”.

That was back in the day. But
the straightening still happens, in one form or another. If you are unfamiliar with the term, this video explains it perfectly: HUSBANDS Episode 2: The Straightening (Season 2),

Adam fights his fights. And he writes and he sings:
walk that walk like you don’t give a fuck...
I have absolutely nothing to add to his words or his music; just savour them. Can't wait for that social commentary.
