Ok - I'm keeping my freakout on the Numbers thread. On one of the bazillion interviews posted this week, Adam said flat out they were shocked (freaked? Don't remember the specific term) that BTIKM didn't do well. That statement sorta slipped under the radar with all the other fabulousness going on, but it caught my attention.
With all the other stuff checked off, could RCA have just assumed radio was going to climb aboard without 'locking' agreements down?
And yes everyone knows there's backseat smoozing. Was there enough to get over the invisible hump?
ETA: I don't get it. This album is getting rave reviews. Adam has given a ton of brilliant interviews. He's knocking every performance out of the park. WHAT THE FUCK DOES HE NEED TO DO TO GET RADIO TO PLAY HIM ??!!

I don't expect Chicago to add, although it would be nice. Actually, I am a little worried that WKSC is going to drop the song after the concert on Friday. He is getting curtesy spins, basically, so I am almost expecting it to happen. And I continue to request, but it doesn't seem to matter much.Honestly, NCOE needs Z100. And more than that, it needs big spins from Z100. I too request daily on WKSC. And B104 (WAEB) has tweeted about Trespassing being #1 and also about the iHeart concert but still no add and little to no spins. (And I know they get requests other than mine) I don't want to be negative after such an incredible day but I simply do not get it.I just read your post HSM about them being "freaked" that BTIKM didn't take off. I'm sure you're right that RCA just assumed it would. But how does that explain NCOE? WTF can't they get that added after their experience with BTIKM? BUT I guess we should still hold out hope until May 29 the actual impact date. And he KILLS NCOE live. That performance today was incredible.

On the "up" side, being an album seller is not a bad thing. I mean 2 million albums = 20 million singles and 20 million singles is a hard goal for anyone that is not Adele. So, selling albums and touring would be a long and prosperous career. The only downside is that Adam wants to be a Pop star and that requires radio play.

Was there enough to get over the invisible hump? I think that "shock" over BTIKM not doing well was the reason for the month long radio tour and the delay in the album to get another single out there. I can see why BTIKM didn't soar up the CHR charts, but there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't have done better on HAC. Personally, I don't think radio put much thought into helping to "choose" the next single. I think when the label reps met with TPTB in radio, they pointed out NCOE was written by Bruno Mars. So radio just said, yeah we might be interested in that. I don't believe they really listened to or considered any of the songs. They just gave Adam and the label reps a response to get them out of their office. What is satisfying is opening up iTunes and seeing Adam sitting at #1. Maybe they have a plan that we're not all aware of. We can only hope. But look at the political climate in this country right now, the culture wars. Don't kid yourself if one doesn't think the suits in radio aren't factoring this in as well.

Well, I admit that I'm a little upset that there weren't more adds, but, I firmly believe that RCA has a plan and they won't screw this up!! Get your ass in gear, RCA!!!!!
