Re-cap- of Adam Lambert concert Six Flags New England TIC FM
Do I have everyone’s tickets? Which camera should I take? How much cash will I need? Is there gas in the car? Is all this angst going to be worth it or will I have a heart attack before I even get there?
This is how I thought I might end up trying to get ready …CRAZYFinally in the car…two 14 year olds (a bit reluctant granddaughter and her happy friend) and my Adam-go-to-concert friend, Viv.
Arriving at Park…not necessarily problems, but venue situations to over come. Two things would have helped make attending this concert easier:
1
. If I had been to a concert at six Flags before so I would know how to negotiate all the paper work. I had 6 sheets of paper with 3 different packages and three different places at the venue to get them checked. Also, if I had been there before I would have been able to find the picnic grove. Other fans mentioned how they wandered for more then an hour looking for the picnic grove entrance. …maps and signs were almost nonexistent.
2.
If the new summer employees could answer any of our questions. Six Flags was very recently opened for the season. Looking back we just had to laugh at all our blunders, and the personnel’s (even security guards) ineptitude.
Because of my misunderstanding in ordering tickets, I ended up at the picnic grove with a picnic lunch and afternoon access to that area, and my friend had to stand in line up the hill. Luckily this was an Adam concert where there are other great fans to meet and talk to. There were fans from all over: LasVegas, Virginia, Florida, and many were attending all of these festivals in the East. My group was at a roped area far from the stage.
waiting at the rope
The path we would follow to the stage. They told us that two security guards would walk us down to the front of the stage and if we ran we would be thrown out of the concert. Oh, my, I am not sure she looked at the group she was talking to. While some looked like they could hustle down the rest of us definitely looked like our sprinting days (if there were any sprinting days) were far behind us. Of course, for a place to see Adam we might take on super powers and fly.
All of us dutiful Adam fans…no trespassing… were herded down the path and those with pink wrist bands went to the corral and those with pattern wrist bands went behind the fenced corral. There we stood in the heat. I was a “leaner” against the fence about 30 feet from the stage. It was a great view. Viv, joined me when they let her group in and the young’uns stayed on the lawn.
The first acts with Jeramine Paul
and Javier Colon
begin. One thing about Topia is that there are so many great writers that can express clearly what you cannot find words for. I will quote Cassie’s post here. She was not there but “She gets it!”
So, the two winners of "The Voice" open for Adam? Someone's idea of a perfect match, perfect line-up. Three guys introduced to the public via a reality TV singing competition. Three guys known for their very good voices. Therefore, three guys with a very similar audience demographic.
They just don't get it. There is a vast difference between a "very good voice" and "the best singer of the generation." And a vast difference between being a very good singer and being a compelling performer on stage.
Sorta like the difference between the local high school's star runner, and the winner of a gold medal in the 10,000 meter race at the Olympics.adamtopia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=daily&thread=904&page=7#245370Adam fans were very gracious to the pre-acts. Jeramine and Javier both had good voices, sang mostly covers, but they kept us waiting for Adam. Anytime Adam’s name was mentioned from the stage the crowd went crazy. Also, the crowd must have grown toward the end of the pre-acts. I don’t know the exact numbers that attended. One place it said 3000. Six Flags does not release attendance numbers.
We waited more while the stage crew tore down the stage and got it ready for Adam. I felt like we had been sitting on the tarmac for hours waiting for our plane to take off. Only we were standing! By the time Adam finally walked out on stage and started singing Trespassing I didn’t even notice his new “threads”. I was just so glad to see him!!! He looked just dorky enough for me, although I do prefer barefeet... it wouldn’t have worked here. Everyone in the fenced area danced and sang. There was lots of arm pumping and arm waving and “bouncing”. In watching the DC videos I think we seemed to be a more active crowd and that might have been because the temp had dropped and it was certainly more comfortable.
Some memorable parts of the concert for me: -
--Adam’s dancing was hiked up a notch. I especially liked one move during Trespassing when he turned his back to the stage jumped-slid 3 jumps to one side and then the other. Fun.
--He kept saying how much he appreciated our support, and thanked us for buying the album and supporting him. ILHSFM
--Before BE …maybe for his own sound check he played with the audience. It reminded me of the Youtubes I have watched of Queen and Freddie. A few simple “Oh, hey, hey” and then one run where we all just stared like “we can’t repeat that” and then we screamed approval.
adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=daily&action=display&thread=904&page=28--I liked the “oldies” because the whole crowd could sing along. I noticed a slight, just slight acknowledgement from Adam as the audience screamed during “Thanks for loving me.” I loved his changed up ending of WWFM.
--The audience’s “Yoo-oh, ohs” in NL were great. Adam called one area, which was on the other side of the fence from us the VIP area. It had many wheelchairs with families and apparently the Sony people and radio people.
--During NCOE I believe he had trouble with his ear piece…it fell out and he couldn’t get it back right away. He turned around and walked back, stopped singing, fixed it and turned around and continued. All the back-up singers kept singing and so did our close-to-the-stage crowd. After the song he apologized for not “singing that one chorus”. ILHSFM
--His last song, Cuckoo was really great. He smiled so much and danced around and went on and on with both “loose my mind” which was before the band introductions and then “Party till you take us away.” after the introductions. It was like he didn’t want the concert to end and we certainly didn’t want it to.

www.youtube.com/user/TALCvids/videosAnd then it was done. :( How could it have gone so fast? We found our teenagers who then wanted to go back to the rides and we sat with watermelon crushed ice…yes, we are sooo wild…and radiated in the joy of having heard and seen Adam. I think the more you get to hear Adam live the more you appreciate it. I realized how very special these events are and how lucky we are. How can you love a singer that much. It is so hard to describe the feelings although we all try. “It makes me feel better than good”. I just know that he makes me feel accepted and so happily alive.
A little epilogue: I dropped the teenagers at my granddaughters house and I got a big hug and “thank you so much for a wonderful day” from both my granddaughter and her friend. My daughter was there and saw how the girls appreciated everything. I was glad because my daughter is usually reluctant to let me (her wild mother) take her child to Adam Lambert concerts. But it all worked out.
I will be the one wearing yellow and black. Surprise.
