I may be in the minority, but I loved the way Adam was dressed yesterday! Come on guys; he looked amazing in the perfect slim -fitting suit, with an edge (the shirt). I think suits like the one he wore, the way he wore it, are really cool and hip.  Hear, hear! |

Fitting in doesn't matter--remember?! |

How much more powerful would that have been, knowing that the consequence of conformity and the numbing drugs was the crushing of the individual spirit? And knowing that that was Adam's inevitable fate unless he found a way? In writing this is called a setup and it becomes more of a problem when the rebellion actually starts. Without any setup, we don't know what Adam has in mind or why does anyone would choose to follow him. As they rush for freedom, what do they think is going to happen? What are they risking? Their freedom, their sanity, their lives? This lack of a setup also steps on the message of the song ... because it makes the video all about Adam. Without the setup, the people are not the agents of their own liberation. Adam is. And as a result, when the transformation comes, it seems too easy. All you have to do is follow Adam, and you will be transformed into a fabulous person.
All great points, Juniemoon, and maybe the video script could have been more polished. But realistically, just how much backstory can you fit into a video that's around 4 minutes long and is meant to entertain, not instruct? Also, I believe Adam and the director intentionally didn't provide much information about whether Adam and the others were in a work camp, hospital, etc, or why they were constantly being drugged and surveilled. I think they want each person viewing the video to decide for himself or herself if the source of the repression is external - or internal - and whether they or society need to change in order for them to break free.
And - what's wrong with the video being all about Adam? Isn't that the point, to showcase him?
You also said, "All you have to do is follow Adam, and you will be transformed into a fabulous person." Well, I see truth in that. Not that I'd call myself fabulous, but Adam has certainly influenced many of us stans to embrace life, acceptance, and a larger world view, and worry less about what others will say or do if we opt to express ourselves freely. |

He looked better when he opened his collar and unbuttoned the top few buttons. Once he did that, he looked perfect! |
