As I said in my comment a couple of pages ago, I thought this video had a very 70's vibe (hello Logan's Run?). Which is another way of saying that most of the thing I find totally cheesy. I actually enjoyed the 70s part of the video the most. The lighting, effects and general idea were very good and I didn't find them cheesy at all. In fact, I think they look more believable than George Lucas' original. To put things in context, when I came back from The Avengers, my wife loved it, while I only liked it. She asked me why. It was because in the scene where Scarlett Johansson was supposed to play a Russian spy I did not like her pronunciation and the billboard outside the building setting up the fact it was in Russia had random Cyrillic characters! :D It totally threw me out of the mood and I could not suspend disbelief from that point on. (Btw, shameless plug ahead, the first 10 minutes of The Avengers with all those plasma effects were done by a company in LA called Hydraulx using a piece of software called Krakatoa which I co-develop as part of my current job). As I said, I am simply damaged and cannot enjoy movies anymore. It seems to be the case with music videos, too I had a little problem with the fire in BTIKM, but it was relatively abstract and I could forgive it. Some of the effects (say, the screens) in the NCOE video are brilliant, the eye scanners are just ok, but the fluid effects are of the lowest quality possible. Than being said, the VFX crew had probably a week or two to work on this, so I can understand it cannot be movie-quality work. In short, it is me, not the video that has a problem :

I totally understand where you're coming from. I find the video partly brilliant, partly cheesy, a little clunky in its storytelling, but in the end I simply enjoy it for what it does have-- ADAM. PLENTY OF ADAM.
One can never accuse Adam of not trying, or of a lack of ambition. He never "settles." Sometimes he may miss the mark but I think it's great fun to watch him jump screaming with exhilaration into the abyss.
Part of the reason I'm left a bit unsatisfied is that the song is too short-- it doesn't give enough time for the story to be developed. I wish they had made an extended version, but I'm sure they were working with time and money constraints. But you know what? I know Adam will get there. In the meantime, I will enjoy this video because it is, after all, pretty damn cool, and so much better than most of the vids I've seen on TV. And I LOVE Adam dancing in neon colored suits! What a beautiful sight! I love him so fucking much!

WOW! I just loved it from the first look. No analysis. Just loved it :D. Had to go again immediately and studied a bit more this time: The never close our eyes seemed a bit strange at first as the eyes were wide open most of the time then, ping! .......the mind state behind them was closed. The blue mist the pills released, in the end was the weapon that was turned against the oppressors. It was always there, they just had to have the will to use it. Adam opened their eyes to this and they followed him (who wouldn't ). The dance sequence is brilliant in more ways than one. I'm very much a 'glass half-full' person so accept this at face value without looking for the 'what might have been'. I know others will see technical issues but hopefully there will be a vast majority like me who, without knowing exactly why, just love it!

Than being said, the VFX crew had probably a week or two to work on this, so I can understand it cannot be movie-quality work. In short, it is me, not the video that has a problem : I totally get what you are saying, and I do think the video has some great parts, and I even like the cheesy parts a lot--it's a fun video and very empowering. The way you are with special effects sounds like the way I am with singing (and to some degree acting--and certainly preaching). I'm a singer, sometimes performer and also a pastor in real life and I really squirm when I have to listen to bad singing and preaching. It's like when you do a wedding and the singer the couple has chosen (usually a friend of the family who loves Beyonce or Celine Dion), completely slaughters a big song--and I, as the pastor, has to smile politely through the whole thing while wanting to beat my head against the nearest surface. When preaching, I have to really work when a sermon isn't very good--even when the subject is good. Like you, seeing the good parts in spite of the other parts can take some work. I appreciate your honesty and opinions about the video--I like to hear other's opinions because they are so interesting. We have the best fans on this board!
