I can't even count the number of times I've read To Kill a Mockingbird, starting when I was in junior high. I don't tend to read books over again these days, although I've read the Harry Potter series five or six times; that one is fascinating because you discover anew how well Rowling pulled it all together. Sirius Black is mentioned once in the first book and then not again until the third book. The necklace that almost killed Katie Bell in the sixth book was mentioned in the second book. I am in awe of an author who can reveal such a long, complicated story over the course of seven very big books, and keep everything straight! When you think about it, reading the same book over and over is similar to listening to the same music over and over. You just want to experience the same feelings that you enjoyed the first time around! She is a master. How in the hell she kept all those details straight through the whole series is mind-boggling. And then could use them as foreshadowing and echo with just the right amount of subtlety. Also, the names, book titles, courses ... everything has some kind of mythic or even comedic basis. I love To Kill A Mockingbird! I've ready it many times. I bought the DVD of it and the bonus commentary is really good providing a history of the novel and, also, it describes the period the book takes place. I read Gone With The Wind about 5 times :  starting in Junior High! lol I use to read all the time but since I found AFL.....who has time?! ;D OT but does anyone have a mp4 link for Adam's AI performance of WWFM last year? I'm still trying to find one. |
