The articles that dismiss Adam have become part of the cage liner for my parrot.
I try to think about this in a way that isn't being from Adamtopia. Or being a fan of Adam.
This gorgeous man, who, sans airbrush, has bone structure and body structure that speaks 'eloquent' for anyone who studies the human form, can sing like no other. Perform like no other. Owns the stage like no other. He is pure bred talent like no other.
For this reason alone, he will not fade away. He cannot fade away. He is too splendid. He will be present for the rest of my life. That is a fact!
I see the situation this way. Adam is sophisticated. He has released a spectacular, unique album that Trespasses into depths of feeling and performance unlike what radio finds comfortable, niche, and readily accepted. I'm not sure of the demographics discussed today, but I think Pop is looking for acceptance somewhere in the 14-29yr age range. Adam will appeal to the 'tweens' but his market, his fans, in my opinion, are older. We buy CDs; we download now and then; but we do not incessantly add singles to the iPod we listen to in our spare time. I don't see many people my age - or even 15 years my junior - walking around on their lunch hour or waiting for a bus with an iPod in their ear. Most of us are headed to the grocery store or the soccer field or just towards home, kids, and family.
Sometimes I wonder if media can figure how to handle this hot potato. It's just like the game I used to play as a kid. The 'hot potato' went from grasp to grasp; and there was only a moment to think about how to handle it. I always wanted to be the one left with it; but, if it were me, I always lost - because I never knew what to do with the gift I cradled in my hands.
When people worry about 'What happened to Clay' or ' look at OLFIP' or the numbers for former Idols I just throw up my hands. Adam is ADAM. He is is a league of his own. He has no comparison. His measurement of success cannot be on the same scale as any other performer, ever. Don't we see this? Compare Adam; measure Adam . . . to who??
Adam's success in the media will thrill me. However, I'm not thinking about today. I know how fleeting today is. Part of what excites me about this journey is my certainty that this obsession will, one day, still bring smiles to the faces of my legacy (who, right now, wonder if I'm Cuckoo).
"Yes, she really listened to music again. And showed us the importance of love, in every way, for everyone".
More to come.
ARE YOU ME? You've said so many of the things I've felt (but much more eloquently!)
