Hello?
I'm back from my amazing vacay in UK, so much to catch up on in Adamland. I don't have anything to contribute to the Moon Garden, but wanted to check in. I really enjoyed all the music posted by sugaree and junie in the last few pages.
Where is everybody?
Junie - love your post above, I had not heard of PSY Gangnam Style, pretty silly, but incredible # of views. WTF?????

Welcome back mahalia!!!! Please tell us about your vacation. I have no idea where everybody went. Suddenly the moon garden went dead. I hope people come back. Surely there are Adam things to talk about? And people who want to talk about them? In honor of Mahalia and the day: HAPPY EXPLORERS' DAY!!! I still love Columbus even if nobody else does. And anyone who explores.

MAHALIA!!!!!!! Welcome back! Glad you had a great time.
junie, that was ummmmmm a little strange. Why would people not like Columbus?
I'm leaving for Florida on Thursday. Can't wait. It got cold here last night. We built our first fireplace fire. Soon I'll be on the beach with sand, sun, 85 degree temps, and water temps at 80. The hell with the neck brace - it's stayin' in the f&*king room. I see the neuro when I get back and he said I wouldn't have to wear it, so what's a week and a half anyway? In honor of the sand and sun everywhere, my favorite Jimmy Buffett song (yes, I'm a card carrying Parrot Head). Would love for Adam to have that kind of success some day. And Jimmy did it without having a number one hit (until the country one It's Five O'clock Somewhere.
A Pirate Looks At Forty (couldn't find a live version I liked)
And because I WILL live in Florida again someday.
Floridays
Sorry for the Buffett spam, but we've been listening to Radio Margaritaville for a few weeks now.................
ETA: Possible Adam topic. Could he ever have a following like Buffett or the Dead? Neither had much radio play. Hell, the Dead's only radio hit was Touch of Gray (not one of their best IMO). Most people only know Buffett for Margaritaville. His best songs are album cuts that non-Parrot Heads have never heard. Could Adam ever have that kind of success in today's music world?

Sending out search party for mika, alison, annala, mszue, winter, glittergma, mirages, lynne, anjalee, and all our friends -- nica, theosgma, rabbitrabbit, holst, lindag, irish, ksha, chapf, melliemom, aleks ... and all our sometimes lurkers and posters I may have missed. And nikki, please come back if you still lurk. (I did not realize until today that nikki had left. ) Need an incentive? Go read this short article from Scientific American: Skip the Small Talk: Meaningful Conversations Linked to Happier People www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=skip-the-small-talkResearchers at the University of Arizona and Washington University ... suggest that adding five substantive conversations to your weekly social calendar could boost your spirits dramatically.Anyway ... if you like this thread ... or have ever wanted to post ... I think now is the time to join in. There are conversations every day on the main thread that are squelched within a page that would make great Moon Garden topics. Back later because I have some ideas about sugaree's topic on whether Adam could ever have a successful cult following like the Dead or Jimmy Buffett. By the way ... when the Moon Garden started, several long-time members told me it would never work. Maybe they were right? I've been described/accused at times in my life of being a "die hard," so I think I'll hang in the game a bit longer to see what happens. It'll never fly, Orville. -- Wilbur Wright, 19011903:

~Waves~ at Juniemoon & everyone else! I'm still around, just lurking, I guess. Been a busy few months for me. I still try to get here daily and read all the goodness though. Just haven't been posting much. On 9-9-12, my youngest son got married here in Lincoln. He is the one who is a chef in HI and his wife (luv saying that) is also a chef. They both work at Four Seasons on the big island of HI. It was a perfect day and a perfect wedding. We had had such hot weather only a week before, but the universe came through and we had mid 70's with little wind. They were married in the Sunken Gardens, which is a park here. Beautiful flowers, a waterfall right behind where they held the ceremony, and even koi ponds! The Bride was so beautiful and she wore her Moms wedding dress. The reception was also outdoor at a place on the edge of town called Country Pines. It's actually a vineyard (Yep, we have em in Nebraska...lol). Their wedding song was Somewhere Over The Rainbow by IZ, a Hawaiian legend. Yep, I teared up a bit. One of my favorite songs. The song they chose for the Mother/Son, Father/Daughter dance was Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. More tears...lol! These kids had everything planned so well that it all went so smooth and there was absolutely no angst at all!! It was very simple, yet elegant. One of the happiest days of my life! My new DIL's family was absolutely lovely and I feel we are good friends now. I even email with her Mom in North Carolina. Actually, her Mom is originally from England and has the cutest accent ever. At the wedding dance, I asked the DJ to play Is This Love by Bob Marley, but he didn't have it I guess, cause he never played it. I would so loved to have had Adams ITL played, but of course he wouldn't have had that either and, unfortunately, my son is not a fan. Won't go into that now though. Basically, he says Adam has a great voice but he doesn't like pop music and actually gets upset if I even try to send him utubes of other music of Adams. So, I've given up on that. (for now ) hehe I really want to post some pics of the Sunken Gardens, and I will at some point after I figure out how to get them into my photobucket. Since I've changed to Firefox, I've had trouble with that, but I will figure it out. It really is a beautiful place and the pictures turned out so well. It took me a couple of weeks to get rested up from 6 days of run...run...run. Then, work decided to cut everyones hours, so I'm also looking for another part time job, or full time if I can find it. More stress....ugh!! I really like what I'm doing right now and love the people, but I can't live on 22-28 hours a week. I guess this isn't about Adam much, is it? Oops! Well, I just saw the PLL vids and thought he did amazing! Love that they show so much of Cuckoo also. And, really sick and tired of some of the people on twitter bashing Adam for his acting skills. Might be time to unfollow some people that I'm not really sure why I'm following anyways. It has to be hard to play yourself and I think Adam did a very good job. I kind of wish they wouldn't show so much (even though I watched...lol) because it won't be much of a surprise now. Oh well, it is what it is. I always enjoy reading all the interesting/educational posts here. Often, I don't feel I have much to contribute, but I do love to see what others have to say. So, please don't stop. Sorry I haven't been posting much. I'll try to do better. Oh, and one more thing about the wedding. My 4 year old grandson was the ring bearer and he was absolutely adorable. His mom didn't think he'd do it by himself and was prepared to walk with him, but he told her he could do it alone, and he did! He also has a major crush on one of the bridesmaids and asks about her daily. When I showed him some pictures of the wedding and he saw her picture, he said *there's my girl*!! Hahaha!! So cute, these 1st crushes. Well, guess that's it for now. Just wanted you all to know I'm still around. I kind of get in a silent mode and just read. Will try to do betterer. I still love the Moon Garden and really want it to continue. ~think I'll go help Adam ready the pool for fall~

Glittergma, you don't have to work here in the garden unless you want to - otherwise, put your feet up and come sit near the brazier. We can sip warm drinks and talk of many things - of shoes and ships and sealing wax of cabbages and kings.... Sorry, there's been a lot of work but also what I've been reading, watching, listening to, thinking about of late doesn't gracefully loop back to Adam so would be very ot. (also I'm feeling more blunt than tactful in communication lately - in gen - and that often doesn't work so well on the Internet page). I watched HBO showing of RnR Hall of Fame induction ceremony when I couldn't sleep last night. Been waiting for this (high quality taping, even if it's shown months later) as I tend to end up scavenging inadequate you tubes after reading about the ceremonies, performances. Touched by chili peppers (really wish strange, brilliant john frusciante had been there) and beastie boys and even fractured GnR. Fwiw

MAHALIA!!!!!!! Welcome back! Glad you had a great time. junie, that was ummmmmm a little strange. Why would people not like Columbus? I finally got around to watching that rap vid...interesting. I think the point is that Columbus was the epitome of colonialist definitions of exploration....find, kill and conquer for the motherland. Kirk and his 'Enterprise' had the prime directive to leave each world the way you found it...it was on of non-intervention. Do no harm. Re the importance of deep conversation over the phatic: I live and breathe for thoughtful and meaningful conversations. I can wade in the shallow for awhile and enjoy....but then I retreat. For me, the rules of this forum can be antithetical to meaningful dialogue at times, and at those times I also tend to retreat to other places for the depth I seem to require. Not imposing my needs on anyone...just that I tend to scroll through most of the light stuff. On a personal light note that you may cheerfully scroll through....I must now go clean up after Thanksgiving, AND my youngest daughter beat me at Chess....aaaarrrrgggghh.

Yay, some other people posted. I love you chapf! glittergma -- your son's wedding sounds like a dream. I am so glad for you! Bummer that your hours got cut at work. I hope you can find something more suitable. I was recently told that my position was probably going to be eliminated in the next budget year, which means my appointment will expire at the end of August 2013 unless something happens to change the proposed budget. It's a mark of the current economic situation that I wonder if that is enough time to find another job. On PLL - I agree with you that the fact that we see everything in advance now pretty much eliminates the fun of surprises. I do miss that. mika -- more on the Chili Peppers below. mszue - Even in the moon garden we struggle at times with the deep. I find that deep conversation helps me grow, especially the kind of conversation that requires risk-taking, creativity, and the suspension of the defenses ... very hard to achieve in Internet/forum communication. There seem to be so many chances for misunderstanding, even here. Me -- I would die without being able to use my imagination. But, I realize, I am probably the world's worst at seeding a conversation with topics because I always want to go off on some imaginary flight somewhere ... Oh well. You gotta be your most honest and authentic self, right? And I will, even if the day comes when I just retreat into silence and private enjoyment. BTW ... if any of you have ever looked into the psychology of writers ... lots of people who didn't get listened to as a child ... the idea is that if you were really secure with your shit you wouldn't have so much to say. True in my case, I think. Anyway, speaking of too much to say, I wanted to get back to sugaree's topic. The word of the day is absolutely, and I absolutely think Adam could have a career like that realized by Jimmy Buffett and the Grateful Dead. I was thinking about Buffett in this context recently, in fact. He only ever had one bonafide hit, which resulted in incredible cult success due to his relentless touring and fan enthusiasm. I looked up some info on the Parrotheads. The annual fan fest attracts some 3500 people a year and the Parrothead fan club has some 28,000 members. The charitable fundraising is off the charts. The identity is not superficial or ephemeral. In concerts, Buffett offers a transcendent experience, a chance to go to "Margaritaville" through song, dance, and costume. Parrotheads keep it going the rest of the year. Imagine what a touch of fan relations could do in this arena. I wonder what Adam has in store for the Trespassing tour. Rumor has it that it's finally being planned. GNT was so amazing. I think to reach Deadhead levels, Adam does need to take his concert to another level, more unpredictable than GNT. I think his GNT band was better than his current band, but I don't know enough about music to explain exactly why it seems that way to me. His performances with Queen showed the heights to which Adam can soar, and I wonder where are the young, hungry Brians and Rogers who could join forces with him? Maybe Adam doesn't want that ... I dunno. One thing that was discussed in the main thread yesterday that I can't really see is the idea of Adam as someone's opening act, unless it was a special limited thing. What performer would want Adam to open for them? It would be like having Bette Midler ... kd lang ... James Brown for your opener. Adam would take all the crowd's energy. I can't see it. Final point is that Austin is gearing up for the annual Austin City Limits music festival. For those who don't know, this is a huge festival that runs over three days and attracts about 70,000 people a day. It ain't no Jingle Ball. There are over 100 acts and a huge variety of genres. Today I read an interview with a gentleman by the name of Bassnectar, who creates electronic music with a team of 12 working 20 computers. Pretty amazing stuff. Bassnectar said that the new generation wants to hear sounds that are novel and intense. "I really produce music with a sense of abandon and resistance to limitations or rules. Any time I feel confined it's just boring to me." Another artist interviewed today calls himself Avicii. He is a Swede who creates melodious dance music with the accompaniment of a tremendous laser light show. I can't help but be blown away by the good vibes of these musicians, who command huge crowds these days, and wonder if Adam's time might be better spent elsewhere ... Oh, and mika -- the Chili Peppers are closing the festival.
