Juniemoon - I'm still here. I was going to reply to something you wrote back on pg 43 when you noted "...Society is changing and everyone feels under siege...". But then the discussions took off on different tangents for awhile. So give me a day or so, and I'll give some thoughts on your comment back then. For now, here's something for you and Mahalia - Moonrise over Big Bend NP.

Yay, some other people posted. Anyway, speaking of too much to say, I wanted to get back to sugaree's topic. The word of the day is absolutely, and I absolutely think Adam could have a career like that realized by Jimmy Buffett and the Grateful Dead. I was thinking about Buffett in this context recently, in fact. He only ever had one bonafide hit, which resulted in incredible cult success due to his relentless touring and fan enthusiasm. I looked up some info on the Parrotheads. The annual fan fest attracts some 3500 people a year and the Parrothead fan club has some 28,000 members. The charitable fundraising is off the charts. The identity is not superficial or ephemeral. In concerts, Buffett offers a transcendent experience, a chance to go to "Margaritaville" through song, dance, and costume. Parrotheads keep it going the rest of the year. Imagine what a touch of fan relations could do in this arena. I wonder what Adam has in store for the Trespassing tour. Rumor has it that it's finally being planned. GNT was so amazing. I think to reach Deadhead levels, Adam does need to take his concert to another level, more unpredictable than GNT. I think his GNT band was better than his current band, but I don't know enough about music to explain exactly why it seems that way to me. His performances with Queen showed the heights to which Adam can soar, and I wonder where are the young, hungry Brians and Rogers who could join forces with him? Maybe Adam doesn't want that ... I dunno. One thing that was discussed in the main thread yesterday that I can't really see is the idea of Adam as someone's opening act, unless it was a special limited thing. What performer would want Adam to open for them? It would be like having Bette Midler ... kd lang ... James Brown for your opener. Adam would take all the crowd's energy. I can't see it. Final point is that Austin is gearing up for the annual Austin City Limits music festival. For those who don't know, this is a huge festival that runs over three days and attracts about 70,000 people a day. It ain't no Jingle Ball. There are over 100 acts and a huge variety of genres. Today I read an interview with a gentleman by the name of Bassnectar, who creates electronic music with a team of 12 working 20 computers. Pretty amazing stuff. I suspect that Adam has his mind set on the pop genre, for the moment, and we may literally have to wait for him to start looking outside of the box that just does not want him in there, and that does not really fit him all that well.... when push comes to shove, a square peg really does not fit in a round hole!! There are so many other ways to get around the stagnation that is the music industry and the accepted format of touring but who knows 'who' is going to actually change it.... Adam seems to be really enamoured with the 'cohesive album' concept he is using...yet he champions the 'post'-modern concepts in other areas of his life...and fye was his pomo album... This has nothing to do with whether he wrote the music or not....though that fits into the whole post modern def'n of creativity and originality too but ...another day. If Adam took his primary life-styles of Group-ness and Post-ness into the touring arena, it could look more like a travelling performance show....part Zodiac part Cirque...with a core contingent of highly accomplished musicians..none of whom where completely responsible for the success of the tour. The secret to the success of such a show would be, IMO, a revolving of the MAIN attractions. That is....there would be no opener or finisher....each artist would perform a small grouping...or one song and another would follow in that groove or theme...and then the first artist would return..there could be ensemble productions.....new artists could be included for very limited performances...or for a short series.....if one artist is ill, there are others to take up the slack....by interspersing the artists, you eliminate that "hang around the merchandize" or "leave after your favourite" syndrome. Artists can sign on for varying lengths of time / distances. This could be a far healthier alternative for artists than utterly exhausting themselves for months at a time. It would allow for extravagant production values that are shared so they don't eat up all the profits of one artist. It would be essential that only artists with an egalitarian attitude be a part of the production....and talent HeWhoCannot ameds fame....the general public would soon buy in, I believe. It will not attract the Beliebers but it could attract some of those rockers looking for something different.....all those folk and blues fest attenders....there is a huge gen-x bunch looking for love in the arts... I see acts like....the aforementioned kdlang would fit nicely here, and Sissor Sisters, and much of the Zodiac bunch, go looking for really great international acts like the ParloTones.....bring someone like Boy George in, bring in Nikka Costa, look at some of those really good Chinese singers we just saw on the Voice China finale....there is a world of amazing talent struggling along, and there are name acts that are already opting for co-headlining for numerous reasons...something like this may be just the thing. My point is that they do not all have to be the same! As long as there is something for everyone, then everyone is the market...go horizontal instead of vertical. I am throwing out ideas and daydreaming here but there just needs to be one adventurous organizer/promotor out there and a core of 3 or 4 talents with a decent fanbase to change the touring landscape. I am quite sure Adam is not ready to do this himself...which is rather too bad as I see some iteration of this as the ideal solution to a lot of musician's problems right now. What is that old adage....that the definition of insanity or stupidity is to keep doing the same thing while expecting a different result?? idk

In the SF Bay Area, Neil Young has the Bridge School Benefit Concert every fall, an all-acoustic, non-profit charity event. This year's performers included Jack White, Guns n' Roses, Sarah McLachlan, Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers, k.d. lang, and others - an eclectic slate to be sure. This is a highly-anticipated concert every year.
I don't think any of us know at this point where exactly Adam's career is headed as he doesn't seem to fit the mold of the current crop of pop sensations. However, I do feel that he will have success and longevity in whatever path opens up for him. He's too good and creative to just fade away in a couple years.
I can't exactly recall where I heard him say this, but I do remember him giving some thoughts about developing some kind of workshop / foundation / showcase down the road in the future to encourage artistic talents not only vocally, but also in other artistic endeavors (such as design, costuming, etc).
Adam's going to be around creatively for a long time - he's in it for the long haul.

...So I'll either spam the garden or edit this post as I eat dinner and watch the Voice. randomania~ - I have Tokyo Milk lotion that I really like - 06 *cough* Dead Sexy : - but here's the thing - it's really girly - I mean pre-Raphaelite heroine girly (Deep Vanilla, Exotic Wood, White Orchid, Ebony - I don't know what that even means). After I got a couple of sniffs and surprised looks, I decided to save it for after work but... it smells amazing and I don't even like perfume/cologne. oy. - more random. If anyone else is watching the Voice, the quirky version of Toxic (Britney Spears) that quirky girl #1 sang in audition rounds is - I think - the Yael Naim version. Yael tends to strike people as interesting or annoying in the emo female vocalist category.

Checking in . Junie et. al, I have been a lot busier these last couple of months since deciding to take the plunge into training for a career change that I have been contemplating for a long time. I have been in lurk mode, but will definitely try to check in more often, even if it's just to say a quick hello. It's nice to see everyone here again! I love the moon garden--long may it live!

What a lovely way to start the day! Thank you. I'm going to use this to help begin a discussion on tone and mood today in my class. I've been throwing myself into my real life job as well, in a way that I probably haven't done in the past few years since I began following Adam, and that is feeling creatively satisfying and personally rewarding, but I also visit here to read, so thanks to all of you. Our new technology implementation at school is giving me a whole new bag of tricks to play with and every cool thing I see or learn digitally makes me start thinking about how I can use it to support and enrich my curriculum goals. There is so much to learn and so many new things to do! My immersion in Adam three plus years ago gave me the motivation to be on the web and become so much more technology literate and comfortable, and that is really paying off now in my lesson planning. I am having so much creative satisfaction right now-- Another thing for which I can thank Adam, and also this forum! I am left remembering that all of the experiences Adam is having now are also paving the way for his future creative endeavors. His busy, busy mind and creative drive will always lead him towards what is new, now, next in his life. I am so glad to be in his classroom, so to speak, today and tomorrow, along for the ride! Best wishes to you, Alison, in all your new pursuits!

On that note, someone put up a video of people helping save stranded whales on a beach a long time ago. Anyone have any idea where I can find it? I've been searching YouTube to no avail.
