Hi Jablea, are you staying fit? I've been eating too much and not exercising-- I need to get back on track.
Nice to see you!

seoulmate, thanks for your WONDERFUL story! Wish it really had turned out that way. You are the Robert Kennedy of gifs ... the one who sees things that never were, and asks, why not? [/IMG] And that Blanco County detail was really pretty incredible. And all that stuff about Hank Cochran! You did research girl! mahailia, thanks for getting me. The Photoshop tutorials I am doing are on psd.tutsplus.com/. There is an area they insist on calling "Basix" where you learn the basics, and then there are just about a jillion intermediate to advanced tutorials. I've used basic Photoshop for a while, and even blundered my way through making some designs, but Photoshop is so big and so deep that I had barely scratched the surface. Just making this one project I used a bunch of tools I had never used before. The tutorials take me about twice as long as the estimated time. LOL. All the tutorials I am working on are free. There is a paid area that looks super advanced.

Hi Alison, I'm trying but probably not doing too good of a job at staying/eating fit. This week I did make 6 gallons of homemade grape juice, maybe that will count.

I keep coming back to one of my favorite artists, Willie Nelson. Sure, Willie is an icon now. But it wasn't always that way. Willie spent most of his 20s and 30s in Nashville, trying to fit into the popular, heavily produced sound that was prevalent there. He wrote hit songs for others, but there seemed no way to break through for this short, unhandsome man with the quavering voice and bluesy, jazz-inflected delivery. Nelson tried so hard to fit in and guess what Nashville wanted from him. But finally he threw in the towel, came home, grew his hair out, and more or less became a hippie. People in Nashville said he had committed career suicide. Willie could not resist the lure of music (having been publicly performing since he was 10), and he started playing around Central Texas with other "outlaws" rejected by Nashville and radio. Always more of a visionary than a true rebel, Willie recorded a critically acclaimed record called Shotgun Willie that went nowhere commercially. He was, however, able to use the leverage from the reviews to find a new label that agreed to give him creative control. He used the money from his Texas live gigs to buy his way out of his old contract. In 1975, he released Red Headed Stranger, and broke through with a cover of Blue Eyes Cryin In the Rain, which shouldered aside the big hits of the day. Nelson was 42 at the time. My point, I guess, is just that I wish folks would not get in such despair about this rumor and that rumor. :( It looks like Adam is not going to be an act where we can keep going on adrenaline. I see some fans burning out as they try to hang on to the sensation of being strapped to a rocket ship clear to the moon. To me it looks like he is going to be like a regular musician, with a (hopefully) endless series of gigs and ideas, some successful, some not. To this day, Nelson plays everywhere from the Kennedy Center to small Texas honky-tonks and everything in between. His status was built over a lifetime of excellent work, being a nice guy, and fighting for his own vision as an artist ... sometimes the bastards won and sometimes Willie won. I feel lucky sometimes because my mom loved music; she loved Elvis and Willie and Johnny Mathis and Johnny Ray and many others. But for whatever reason my mom was very wise. She didn't seem to see the musicians as idols. She seemed to see them as working stiffs trying to make it in a very tough and often low status business. This shaped me in ways that I am grateful for but that are making it tough for me to fit in at times now. Adam is still in the stage where he has to fight the bastards. Adam took dead aim at radio with Trespassing and I think that was a very logical decision for him to make. But I am very glad he did not sell out his own artistic vision. He made one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year in his genre. He wrote and sang some amazing music. He continues to make strides as a live performer. I think what Adam has to do is follow his own artistic vision. And that takes time to discover and develop. Look at Willie. It took him years to accept that he just wasn't a mainstream country artist; that Willie Nelson music was something different altogether. When he finally got there, everything he had learned and experienced came together for him. Obviously I hope we don't have to wait until Adam is 42, but what exactly are we waiting for? How will we know when we get "there"? Where is "there" anyway? Sometimes -- and I don't exempt myself -- I feel like we are missing the moment looking at what we don't have.

Love your post junie, but then I've always prescribed to Willie's philosophies. Just got back, no time to chat. Can anyone give me a brief rundown of anything that happened in Adamland (and not the typical response given to me in the past in the main thread of "read the headlines"). If I had the time to do that, I wouldn't have to ask. And to give a brief recap of our time on Captiva, here's Willie.......

Welcome back sugaree! I missed you SFM. In Adamland: - Adam was very well received in New Zealand and Australia. He performed at a horse race and looked and sounded amazing. - The Trespassing EP came out. Fans did a buying campaign for both the EP and the single of Trespassing, which is the radio edit of the song. The EP in particular seems to be selling well. - Adam performed at the Arizona State Fair. It was hot and sexy and a great show. - Adam was booked for a huge New Year's Eve gig in Bali, and is adding more performances for the fall and winter in various places. Five concerts in Japan were announced and some people think that might be the beginning of a Trespassing tour but who knows.

Junie, YES to everything in your post. Adam will always be seeking and performing--that is what artists do. We are lucky fans to have such access and watch his journey (and almost every performance) in real time. What is there to be so down about? I don't understand, probably never will. :-/
My only hope is that he will tour in some fashion soon. There has been an Adam drought in the Midwest. Summer of GNT was far too long ago!
Sugaree, welcome back! Wish I could help, but I am pretty clueless about current Adam events, except that he was a groomsman at a friends wedding this weekend. He apparently sang there.
ETA: Wow Junie! You're good.!

Don't know how the hell my font got so big. Oh well. During a serious conversation, hubby told me last week that he thought my time spent here is kind of useless and unproductive. While it pissed me off, when I looked at my daily internet/computer history I pretty much saw what he was saying. I've been here a long time and I Love reading this thread and the people who post in it , but to be honest, the Adam news (or lack thereof) is kind of boring - just for me. I realized that I haven't watched or listened to an Adam video or interview in a very long time. His music now fits into my general play lists, although I still love it - when a song pops up, it pops up. I've deleted the ones that I've always disliked with no remorse. I love all kinds of artists, trained or untrained. Don't have the desire to defend either. In fact, most of my faves fall into the untrained category. I never thought about that before and don't ever want to spend time thinking about it (regarding education, opinions, edited opinions, self censored opinions, etc.). I like what I like - that's it.
I brought Adam up several times last week while talking to SIL, cousins and nieces. When they said he was not a hit-maker or star, I spent time defending him with the Queen thing, international success etc. They didn't give a flying fuck and looked at me a little strangely. When the topic of kale came up while grocery shopping, I said "Adam juices and drinks kale". My 13 year old niece said "Man, Aunt Deb, your'e pretty obsessed". I realized that the fact that I knew and instantly responded that a celebrity juiced and drank kale, I had to take a step back. Love you guys, but time to devote my time to me, getting better and some new and important goals in my life. I'll be around every once in a while and if anyone cares to pm me if anything major happens, I'd appreciate it..........
None of this is meant to put anyone else down - it's all about me and only me and my circumstances and opinions.
xoxo

Great post, Juniemoon, and great analogy with Willie Nelson and his career.
Checking the first page of the main thread today (Oct 22), I read the article from a New Zealand magazine where Adam describes himself and his situation; "...sometimes it feels a bit like high school. I don't feel like I'm at the popular kids' table, nor do I want to be...I'm still kind of like the drama geek, I think I'll always be that way..."
I continue to feel that Adam is and will continue to be successful - but not in the same way that many had envisioned at first as a hot pop star in the same vein as Katy Perry, Justin Beiber, or whoever else is a hot act these days.
Adam has a strong and loyal fan base - he's definitely one to see and hear live if at all possible where his performances highlight his vocal talents and high energy, not some gimmicky flashy pageantry - he is kind, honest, and polite - and he is truly loved!
I recently looked at the video of older people doing a line dance to "Shady", and I thought "Wow, that's really neat!"
I think it's also great that he's doing all these performances in the Far East, and soon in South Africa as he continues to build his awareness and attract new fans.
I think Adam will continue to do fine by being true to himself wherever his path takes him - and I also believe he will be around for a long time. He's not going to go away. Some of his anxious fans just need more patience, flexibility, and know that he and his management are continuing to grow and evolve with the conditions of the fickle music industry.
