This is prob gonna be a hit-and-run post b/c I'm in the middle of a political conversation on another board that I've been on for eleven years. But here is where I wish to share that I won a GlamNation DVD from NeonLimelight. They sent me a DM and I didn't realize it was even for me at first as I am so used to the TweetDeck pop-ups on my computer that I don't even notice most of them. When I clicked on my deck, there, in fact, was the notice in my DM column.
I am beyond excited. I was not able to do a pre-order and felt left out of all the celebrations. I don't know exactly what I am getting though. Isn't there two DVD's in the package? I wonder if I am just getting the one with the videos. What comes in the package?
Anyway, I actually put on the Aftermath remix and danced around my living room. Yay for me!

Language is so goddamn limiting and problematical that I swear there are times I wish I could communicate using solely emoticons and interpretive dance. But that's limiting, too, and none of you can see me dancing . . . Speaking of trying to cram human experience into words, I got the biggest kick out of the big old mouthful of seemingly debate-proof qualifiers Adam has apparently memorized to describe himself: "one-of-the-first" (not THE first) (deep breath) "mainstream" (there are underground precedents) "openly gay" (inflection-implied air quotes) "alternative" (hm . . . isn't that oppositie of "mainstream"?) "pop-singers" (other genres might have precedents) "to-be-signed-to-a-major-label" (not Indie) "in the States" (UK - been there, done that). Whew! But if he is going to have to wear a label, dammit! then Adam Lambert is going to create it. foxallaccess.blogs.fox.com/2011/03/19/from-pressure-to-privilege-adam-lambert-on-being-a-role-model/Just a question ---- The UK major label gay artists were signed and released albums before they came out as far as I know. Bowie, Elton, Boy George, Freddy/Queen, George Micheal -- all released albums and had hits before they came out. There is a gay Australian UK-based, Sam Sparro, who was signed by Island and had a hit single in the UK -- Black & Gold. But that was not until April 2008. Who is the gay UK major label gay artist who was out and then released their first album or single? (Sure there is one, but who is it?) As far as I can determine -- Adam is the first openly gay American to be signed to a major label. There are no underground predecessors. There are not others. I believe that Adam is the First Openly Gay Artist to release a Major Label Debut Album in the US since 1945 with a major label promotional budget, broad radio support and US retail distribution.
Two openly gay artists with major label contract but not distribution before Adam are Sam Sparro and Ferras. Sam's UK hit "Black and Gold" was only a Dance Club hit in the US. His debut album was not distributed to US retail and was primarily a digital album in the US. (Did not chart on US Billboard 200.) The other is Ferras Alqaisi -- debut album sold 27,000 copies. He was signed to Capital but the album was not distributed widely -- initially it was digital only, followed by a limited release CD. Ferras had support from Idol like AdamFerras' ""Hollywood's Not America" peaked at #62 in the US mostly on sales driven by its use as the Idol Exit song for AI7 (2008). It peaked at #32 on Billboard Mainstream Top 40 (airplay), the highest radio position of any new gay artist until Adam. Who am I missing? Surely someone? Scissor Sisters, maybe? They are American, but were original signed with British Polydor in 2003. From Wikipedia: "Comfortably Numb" came to the attention of British label Polydor, who signed the group to a contract. Their first single for the label, "Laura", had a limited release in 2003 (reaching #54 in the UK Singles Chart), receiving little attention with the exceptions of British music paper New Musical Express, Channel 4's entertainment programme V Graham Norton, and the same channel's music programme Popworld for which they were interviewed. The track also got plenty of radio play in Australia. 2003 also saw the inclusion of the atmospheric "It Can't Come Quickly Enough" on the soundtrack of the film Party Monster; the song played over its ending credits.
Their first hit was in 2004 with the release of "Comfortably Numb", a Pink Floyd cover (reaching #10 in the UK), featuring Paul Leschen on piano and keyboards. This success was followed by "Take Your Mama" (#17 in the UK), a re-release of "Laura" (#12 in the UK), the ballad "Mary" (#14 in the UK), and the hedonist anthem "Filthy/Gorgeous" (#5 in the UK).

Q3, I thought of Mika, but I don't know anything about his label Mika released a Major Label EP and Album, before he publicly stated he was Bisexual (September 2009). Not exactly a secret but that is the first time he labeled himself. SusieFierce, I think Sissor Sisters may be the best predecessor. Actually they were signed to Universal -- but the UK release on Polydor (UK) is the big seller. Two members of the band were out in 2004 when they released their debut (3 now), but they are a band -- and not all members of the band were openly gay. Paddy Boom (original drummer) is not gay. And Ana Matronic is a hetero woman. But that puts them about equal to B-52's. A band with openly gay members. BUT, I forget about Will Young -- from X-Factor Pop Idol -- openly gay and signed to RCA UK.

Since I seem to be hopelessly lost in the shallow end today and can't seem to contribute anything intelligent to today's wonderful discussions, I'm going to post a link, from Chunkey's site, about the history of Adam's Pants. ;D Scroll down to the post from "Fake!Luna." I don't want to bring the whole thing over here, so Chunkey can get the hits, but if she wants to bring it over, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by many! www.thehomeplanet.org/?p=65372#comments

What are the 5 most popular OPEN OUT Gay singers/bands/musicians? I'm looking for world famous MAJOR LABEL-signed artists...
thanks in advance
from Ask
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker Major Label? Well, Adam Lambert is the only person to be openly gay and then get signed to a major label.
others mentioned as gay musicians
Freddie Mercury from Queen, of course. Pretty epic there. Rob Halford from Judas Preist has been openly gay since the late 90s and they're very well known..Then there are Tegan and Sara and KD Lang who are pretty popular. Melissa Ethridge and the Indigo Girls too. Elton John, Clay Aiken, Ricky Martin...
